Thought this was telling stat....compared 2 our our key shooters (Bothwell and Mounce) shooting this year vs the previous 2 years, SoCon play only....

Bothwell:
Fr/So - 33/83 (39.7%)
Jr - 15/63 (23.8%)

Mounce:
So/Jr - 56/149 (37.6%)
Sr - 27/94 (28.7%)

not sure if it's their shooting technique, the offense, shot selection, or what.....but those 2 clearly lost their stroke.

Bothwell regaining his shot/confidence is critical to our success next year.

*to be fair, Alex Hunter improved from a career 35% shooter to a 40% shooter, so he helped offset some of the struggles of Mike and Clay

FUBeAR is a hoops novice, but logic would make me wonder if they became ‘a known quantity’ as a 3-Point shooter, thus became more tightly covered when they rec’d the ball behind the arc. If such a stat exists, it would be interesting to correlate this stat with historical stats when un-, lightly-, or tightly-covered while attempting a 3. Would also be interesting to compare this stat to other Players as they became known dagger-throwers.

Just a thought...

I think you're right FuB. Last year teams were worried about Lyons and maybe left Bothwell and Mounce open a little more and they made a better %. This year they played both more tightly. I don't know, just a theory.

I haven't watched the UNCG/VMI game but I would suspect the reason VMI shot poorly was UNCG played better D.

Maybe they need to get their eyes checked. Vision can change rapidly. Mine got worserer at about their age. You never know.

Some of it may have been defense but IIRC they both missed a lot of open threes. I remember CM going 1-15 late in the year. Knew Bothwell’s shooting was off but didn’t realize it was that far off.

I think we would need to do a statistical analysis of the variation of imprint frequency of positive events vs. negative events on your brain to validate / correlate your recollection to variations in their shooting %’s.

Any volunteers to conduct that assessment?

Could be from the 3 pt line moving back??
Prolly not. Mounce shot 39.1% and Bothwell 37.7% from the same distance last year. Mounce down 6.4% and Bothwell down 9.9% from last year, Gurley was also down 6.8% while Hunter was up 5.2% from last year.

Bothwell did not even attempt a 3 in the VMI game which tells me he had lost his confidence. Hope he will get that stroke back by next year.

That would be huge, because we know he is capable. If you had to say one thing caused the disapponting year it would have to be the 3 point shooting. Even though as a team the percentage was only down 1%, it was that 3 of the main shooters were way down.
