Great highlight package - made even sweeter by the win.

A Wofford fan that attended the game posted on AGS that Furman was lucky to win that game. It's weird how two people can watch the same game and come away with a completely different take. For most of the game, I felt all the breaks went Samford's way other than the opening kickoff. But even that play was created by the effort of Gilby knocking a Bulldog into his own player.

The truth usually is somewhere in between. I felt there was a PI on Samford as we we were going to score (goal line) that was not called. The pick 6 and punt return were absolutely legit. We stared down the receiver on a long throw and that return man is Scary! The Samford pass called - on the field - as past the LOS should have been left in my opinion. I saw the TV version and the announcers agreed it was close but there was not enough to overturn it. Thanks to our D we stopped the next two runs!!! Our fumble which was ruled not a fumble on the field (runnner down) was one of the few times SoCon got it all right. It was a fumble -or at least could be - but Sanford recovered it out of bounds. Man SoCon refs scare me

Agree with all your points GoFu… the football makes a lot of weird bounces. Pre-Samford game we've had two passes bounce off a Paladin into the hands of an opponent. One pass actually bounced off one Paladin into another Paladin and then landed in the arms of an opponent. And then there is the hip snap bounce that landed right in front of a Keydet.

The ball bounces weird for every team sooner or later - that said I've always felt we've had bad luck mojo since DeBusk got injured in the playoffs in 89.

I know special teams has been something of an adventure, but that having Clark, Dimaggio, Gilby, Miller, and Owen hurtling down the middle of the field is a lot of beef.

Had not realized this in real time, but the cat that picked off Furman twice (including a pick six) and Samford's third leading tackler were alums of my high school.

So, good day overall. Second alma mater won. First alma mater had a banner day for the bad guys.

So the Samford game was the 2nd largest comeback win in school history, does anybody know what the largest one was?
Coulda been FU @ Davidson in 1979.

We won 63-55, but I think we got way down at one point. Can’t locate a box score with a quick search. That was an NCAA record point total for both Teams at the time.

It is referenced in the article.
Furman's rally from a 17-point deficit tied for the second-biggest comeback for a win in school history (since 1973) and the biggest ever at Paladin Stadium. The Paladins trailed 17-0 at Samford in 2015 before recording a 20-17 win. Furman's biggest comeback was from a 35-14 deficit at Davidson in a 63-55 win in 1979.

Ha - I didn’t see that in the article either...but I won the Trivia question.

That was a CRAZY day crazy game!

As a Kick-Off Return Specialist (well...a KOR front wall guy...and since that was the only time I got in the game in ‘79...”Specialist” kinda fits)...it was certainly busy - 9 KOR’s!

Davidson actually had a WR & a RB who were near-NFL quality and they each scored about 5 times.

Good times

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
