Is Converse going to have a baseball team. Bet they do.
Not presently on the list. Only basketball, soccer, track and field, cross country, tennis, I think.
...and Men will participate in Equestrian...and on the Valkyries’ eSports Team (that’s video games, y’know)
...and because these questions vex FUBeAR...
1) Valkyries are female. Will ConU select a different nickname for their Men’s Teams? If not, will they be informally called the Gentlemen Valkyries (or similar)?
2) Related to the above...similar questions for their Coed eSports Team
3) Valkyries sort of have an Aryan and Nazi association with them, I believe. Will ConU keep that moniker in the political climate of today? Valpo recently announced they are dropping their Crusaders name. Holy Cross kept it, but dropped the Knight-related imagery and wrote up some stuff about what THEY mean by Crusaders.
So many important questions to discuss here. We need to apologize to the Furman Softball Team, since we have gotten off the topic. But the questions need answers. Then people can get their minds back on supporting Softball’s success. Furman Softball is representing Furman. We are thankful for all of their dedication, talent, and work.
Now back to the burning issues and vexing questions of the hour, so that people may be able to sleep tonight (if they want to).
Yes, we know about the existence of eSports.
Questions 1) and 2) - Valkyries will continue to be the nickname for all ConU teams and athletes. They cannot be referred to as Gentleman Valkyries. Apparently, references to Lady Paladins, Lady Tigers, Lady Gamecocks* went away a few years ago. Not sure how universal that is. Thought I noticed “Georgia Lady Bulldogs” short while ago. Not sure what they call women’s teams/players at USF. Are they the Bulls?
Question 3) - Probably a commission will be established at ConU to study this dilemma. It is possible that they may find a way to get past this with minimum offense and minimum embarrassment. The commission may be needing to go to Oxford, Mississippi, for an exploratory meeting; and/or to Newberry, SC.
*Back to 1), The high-powered Gamecock Women Basketball team at UofSC (AKA Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks) in previous years were called the Lady Gamecock, and prior to that they were called the Chicks, and prior to that they were called the Pullets.
