• Colgate Series Canceled

Apparently the future home and home series with Colgate has been canceled. That puts more holes in upcoming schedules. We need 2 games for 2022, the only non-conference we currently have is at Clempson 10/8. Need 2 games for 2024. Currently for 2024 we have at Ole Miss and at William&Mary. We do not have a home ooc game for either 2022 or 2024. JD has some work to do.

I'm guessing Colgate didn't want to make up the Hurricane game. IMO JD did the right thing to say goodbye.

AstroDin may be right.
For us to have the expense of traveling to Hamilton NY without also receiving an attractive OOC come to us would be hard.
It’s regrettable to lose such a good opponent from the schedule, just like it is regrettable that the agreements between us & Delaware were cancelled a few years back.
...We may have to get Point to come back.
...Or get NGU.
PC.
Charleston Southern.
Good enough, go Furman.

This was a new home and home, not a makeup of the hurricane game.

^^ that's my point - Colgate owes us a game that they canceled and appeared to not make much effort to reschedule.
If I was Clay not sure I would like it much to lose a home game from a previous contract and then sign another home and home.

If this football ASUN stops at 7 members, then we should have no trouble getting home-and-home with the closest 3 or 4 of them if we should so desire. Those would be, in order of least distance:
KSU
EKU
JSU
UNA
Stetson (if they participate)
And of course UTC is less distant than all than the above 3, in case UTC departs SoCon.
(At the same time, I note that teams in CAA South are closer than some or many of the above, so we should be seeking additional future home and home ‘s with Elon, RIchmond, JMU, and W&M.)

I think we should have a regular home and home with South Carolina State. Economical for both teams.

20 years ago maybe but not now. Last few FU/SCS games have been poorly attended.

Affirm, Stetson has given no indication they are going to go from non-scholarship to scholarship. Expect them to stay in the Pioneer League. In fact the article stated that Stetson would not participate in ASun football. Right now they will only have 5 football FCS members. They will need to add one to get to the 6 needed for auto bid.

Not to quibble, but the last SCSU/Furman game in Greenville was played in a bona fide hurricane - 20 mph winds and heavy rain. Attendance was expectedly poor, and would have been poor regardless of the opponent.

Before that, the last time the two teams met in Greenville was 1998. Attendance was over 10k.

The two teams played in Orangeburg in 2013 and 2014. The 2014 was a regular season contest with attendance over 9600, that was about average for the Bulldogs that season.

The 2013 game was half that, but it was the first round of the playoffs, which is notoriously poorly attended at nearly every FCS venue given that it frequently falls on Thanksgiving break.

So, I wouldn't say they have been "poorly attended." Four games in 20 years - two were well attended, and the two that were not were played in a deluge and one of the weakest attendance weeks across all of FCS football.

The 1998 game attendance was 10,094 which was by far the least attended of the 7 to date played in PS. The newness had worn off. Just saying that scheduling SC State is not going to create a well attended game more than any other game. The scary thing about losing the Colgate series this late is it really creates a scheduling problem. We need 2 games in 2022. Chances of getting quality games this late, esecially a home game are not good.

We'll be fine.

We struggle to get 8000 to home conference games. It will be awesome if Coach H is correct and we fill up the stadium for NC A&T. Name another school that travels well that will come to us. GSU and APPy wont anymore.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
