Just read article on possible candidates to replace Muschamp. Napier was one of several mentioned.

IMHO Napier is not a favorite for the job but you never know.

Ben Breiner (The State) published his list of “a few names worth considering” as of 7:55 PM.
GROUP OF FIVE LEVEL
Freeze
Chadwell
Napier
Holtz
POWER FIVE LEVEL
Brown
Clawson
Beamer
Maybe the new UofSC President will bring Monken back south.

Why not?

SC coaching roots, coached at major programs, successful at G5.

Napier went to Louisiana as a jump to P5.

USC likes big name has beens, not promising up and comers. They’ll probably try to lure Les Miles away from Kansas.

I was thinking Urban Meyer 3.0

I wonder how much the buyout of 13 million weighs on the decision?
If they do change up the past strategy of heritage name coaches and go the up and coming route…

Chadwell is a steal… Chadwell is one of the lowest-paid coaches in FBS at $375,00
Billy is making $880,00.

If I were in charge I'd look at Steve Sarkisian or Hugh Freeze. But both of these guys will require $$$$. Sarkisian is making 2.5 million at Bama and Freeze is making 2 million at Liberty.

Going to both FU and USC I have a passive interest in the Gamecocks… I hope they change up directions here and rattle the chicken coup.

They should hire Willie Taggart.
Pay his $3 million buyout, and triple his current annual salary to $2.25 million.
They apparently are awash in football money there anyway.
Even so, I doubt their ability to lure David Shaw from Stanford ... or even Mike Locksley from Maryland.

I share your concern about the ripples.

Chadwell, to me, is a higher risk/high reward kind of guy. Chadwell has no coaching background at the upper levels of college football. Even with Coastal being a top 25 team, they are still miles from the upper echelon of college football. They have a win over winless Kansas, the worst team in the worst P5 league (the Big 12 is a complete mess). They also beat Campbell.

Chadwell also has a history of NCAA violations. That, presumably, scared off a few SoCon schools (Furman included) when there were a few openings four or five years ago.

That said, South Carolina may want to do something a little outside the box. Making decisions inside the box with safe, traditional hires has gotten them exactly nowhere. They are going to potentially have to go the route of Miss. State and Ole Miss, do something wildly different in hopes of closing the massive gulf between their program and the rest of their division.

The Chants are a helluva lot closer to the upper echelon of college football than the Lamecocks. Chadwell is already in the State University system, so I say bring him up from the farm team to the Majors.

As a Furman fan, I'd prefer that there not be a bunch of available coaching spots at Coastal. Let's hope they go a different direction.

Checked in with my Gamecock family members…
they seem to think Napier is the choice at the lower level schools - over Chadwell and Freeze who have shady pasts.

Kitchens is at USC as RB coach - would be kinda funny to have Napier and Bobby Lamb in Columbia.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
