Yeah, it's waay early but I am jonesing for football - esp FU football

RB - Wynn / Watkins? / Anderson? / Abrams?
WR - Dejuan Bell / Luke Shiflett / DeLuca
OL - Jordan Harris

OL
TE - Ryan Miller
-----

D

DL - Taylor Hodge (NG) / Cameron Coleman
DL - Landon Lawrence / Sochovka
DE - Hope / Agbenou / Seabrook
LB -
LB - Gilby
LB - Elijah McKoy
LB -
DB - Blackshear
DB - Kearse?
S -
S -

thanks for help here filling in the gaps!

You don't really list our positions correctly:

We have two different types of running backs - a tailback (Wynn/Watkins/Anderson) and a running back/fullback (Abrams/Roberto)

Harris has moved to OT. I would think that Jacob Johanning, who saw playing time last season, may get a good look at Harris former RG spot. Bo McKinley has basically backed up every position the last two years. I imagine he'd be a logical player at the other OT.

I think we will see both Sisson and Grainger.

We have two different WR positions. The SE would likely be Deluca/Shiflett. Bell likely starts at the FLK position.

Just my opinion, but on defense you won't see many pure "starters." I think we will rotate a ton of guys that will be inserted at different times depending on the situation.

On defense, about the only guys that I would expect not to rotate a bunch will be our four primary DBs and Gilby. Everyone else, I expect, will be on and off the field.

Well done John W.

A couple comments - We look a little thin at DT. Only 2 players on roster at that position, Sochovka and Lewis. Who might fill in if we have any injuries?

McKoy over Hope at Bandit? McKoy the run stopper and Hope the pass rusher??

True freshman at ILB? Is Dimaggio that good?

Landon Lawrence though listed as a DE played DT last year and I suspect will again. Harbin has played there before as well.

I feel McKoy more an every down player and I don't see moving him from LB to be 2nd string. Could be a kind of co-starter situation with Hope keeping him fresh for passing downs.

Dimaggio as a starter is a pure hunch. Again moving McKoy to bandit and Agbenou to DE from inside I'm thinking the coaches have a replacement. It could also be McCormick or Miller, but yes I think DiMaggio may be that good.

I wouldn't read too deeply into the specific position titles.

Furman typically lists 3 defensive line positions - NG, DE, DT.

Our DTs are going to be a bit bigger than the DEs. That position is less of a pass rusher and will often play to the offense's weak side along with the Bandit linebacker (our primary pass rusher).

Depth wise, though, we also modify a lot of our fronts out of a pure 3-4 look. Our NGs will often line up as more of a DT, DT to DE, etc.

Example from the Point game:

This is an even-man front look with 3-4 personnel. In that look, our NG essentially is playing 4-3 DT.

I'm with you. I doubt they'd move McKoy as a senior without having a guy they felt could step in at ILB.

He was a bit under the radar, but Furman used Dae'one Wilkins at ILB a bunch last year in passing situations. So, the starter may be more of a two-down type of player.

I agree that we certainly use two types of RBs. I also agree we will see both QBs and I hope they are both great

First, thanks for all the input everyone!

I only had a minute yesterday so have now tried to put everyone's input here in aggregate:

QB - Grainger / Sisson (both had good camps so no order here)
TB - Wynn / Watkins / Anderson
RB - / Abrams / Roberto
SE - Deluca/ Shiflett/ Henderson
WR/FLK - Dejuan Bell /
LT Jordan Harris
LG Jake Johanning
C - Jumper / Neely
RG - Reed Kroeber
RT- Tomlin
TE - Ryan Miller
-----

D
NG - Taylor Hodge / Cameron Coleman
DT - Sochovka / Landon Lawrence
DE - Agbenou / Seabrook
SPUR - Dae'one Wilkins
ILB - Braden Gilby
ILB - Dae'one Wilkins / Evan Dimaggio ?
BAN - Elijah McKoy / Hope
DB - Blackshear
DB - Kearse?
SAF Hunter Ryan
SAF D. Clay/ Jones/ Brinson

** I am pivoting this toward a "two deep" or "rotation" type listing though if I see a definite starter I may note that in bold (Like Wynn): - so if you know a guy who will probably play a good bit (25% or more) in tight games please help me with those names ! Clearly I am still missing some (like not enough LBs listed) ... or who else plays at the SPUR?

- thanks in advance

These are your inside linebackers.

Gilby seems likely to be a starter. Jalen Miller (furthest to the right) has moved from the Spur Position. Dimaggio and McCormick were both highly recruited. Miller was as well and played a good bit last year.

Jackal, Thanks. help me then. Look at my "two deep" above and give me your guesses at LB.

LB seems to be the youngest/thinnest to me. W McKoy and Hope both at Bandit .. and Gilby at ILB ... I am struggling to see experience in the other ILB and spur? Who would you put as the 2 guys at each of those positions and who would back up Gilby at the other ILB?

No one one here can tell you that. Only one of those guys has played extensively at ILB, and that’s Gilby. Everyone else is unknown (to the fans) at that position.

What we can assume is that if the coaches moved a senior starter (McKoy) out of that spot, there’s probably a guy they like enough to put in there

I'm chilling in Furman so I'm late to the party… I think John W did a great job.

Ya'll are missing on a player of impact for the season at ILB > I think we know who will be the 2nd ILB starter.

Jackal mentioned Jalen Miller (Byrnes) 5-11 205 >
Miller moved in the spring to linebacker played really well -
brings a lot of speed and he plays physical.
Played in all 12 games last year.

Also based on CCH's comments I'd move Brinson up at Safety. I do think we have a ton of talent at both safety positions, you can see a lot of rotation, not sure where Rhodes, Richards, and Jones fall.

Also, mark it down your gonna see a lot of #75 Pearson Toomey at OT. CCH wanted to play Toomey last year and not redshirt but he had an injury and was redshirted. I think we will see Pearson rotating at OT and getting some starts based on matchups.

Final - I'd add Kendal Thomas to the tailback and slot play with 2021 being a combo season - Thomas is too good to not get on the field.

Concerning the Spur position…
I'm pretty sure Wilkins starts.

Furman has moved two very experienced players to Spur…
Jack Owen 6-3 220
Patrick Wells 6-0 196
Both of these guys have a lot of PT, I've always thought they both play smart and they don't give up.

I'm curious about Jack Rhodes 6-1 191, saw action at six positions at Milton, including linebacker, cornerback, and safety on defense. Jack was Region 5-AAAAAAA Athlete of the Year, not too shabby. Rhodes also enrolled early and practiced in the spring. I could see Rhodes sliding over to Spur.

A future thought - Myion Hicks - possibly one of the best two-way players Furman has recruited recently.
Where is Hicks gonna play? Running back or ILB or Spur?

Hicks is flat out tearing it up this season and is getting a lot of attention (which is scary). Hicks and Pantego are undefeated. When Hicks committed I thought he could be a ILB/Spur but he's blowing up this season at running back.

"Senior running back Myion Hicks is the total package of size, speed and versatility, and he displayed his full array of skills Friday night at Miller Stadium as he led Pantego Christian to a 35-7 romp over host Dallas Covenant in a TAPPS District 2 Division 3 match-up.

Hicks is fast and bruising and he carried the ball 19 times for 158 yards and scored on runs of 3, 30 and 9 yards as the Panthers established their superiority early against a feisty but over-matched Covenant team that averted a shutout late in the game."

OK updated per those who know more.. these are just guesses obviously.
