Dr Richard “Rick” Carpenter, retired dentist in Simpsonville, has died at the age of 75. He was a life long Furman fan, and basketball season ticket holder. He would often be seen at b-ball games with his family, including his brother Fred, a retired banker. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known. My best to his family.

Rick’s brother Fred just told me that Rick had been a season ticket holder since 1973. A true fan.

I’m floored by this news. When I returned to Greenville in 1990, Rick welcomed me to the Greenville dental community and was a supportive friend and colleague. He loved Furman basketball! My thoughts and prayers for Rick’s family. Furman has lost a great one!

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
