Back to the football season. There will be one. It will be different, but there will be football. The biggest fear I have for the program is for the SEC to dictate no out of conference games, which will mean huge payday for us.

That would make no sense. Even though our game has little importance the cancelling of OOC games would cost the SEC millions and millions. Just the first week:
USC/ALABAMA
BAYLOR/OLE MISS
VIRGINIA/GEORGIA

If a bunch of schools decide not to play, maybe we can slip in and take their place that Saturday. That way it isn’t a total loss.

I counted 2 or 3 that were on campus students. Most were staff or students living off campus. Better stop talking about this or flag man will get mad.

Suffice it to say, it's not a hot zone.

Spoke to the father of an incoming freshman football recruit this morning. They are installing the playbook for new players via Zoom meetings 1 play a day. Coach Hendrix also spoke to the players via Zoom about the George Floyd issue.

Players originally were to be on campus by 6/7. That is on hold for now with a tentative date of early July.

The SC High School League released guidelines on Friday for starting summer conditioning and practice. They are incomplete and a little silly in places, but at least it’s a start.

I was under the assumption that even if the Tennessee game was not played, the check would still be honored?

Certain countries are starting to show "herd immunity" in Europe...Soccer has been going on 3 weeks now in Germany, albeit without fans...Spain's La Liga's return is projected for June 11..Italy will be back on June 20 with fans...Premier League has targeted a date of return, as has the French Open....I think we're going to see football this fall..If these go well in terms of the virus not firing up again...It will be good news for football season I think.

Most reasonable definitions of herd immunity are for 60% of population to have neutralizing antibodies. Even the hardest hit cities are far from achieving herd immunity:

NYC 19.9%
London 17.5%
Barcelona. 7.1%

Chelsea outside of Boston, which has been very hard hit, only has 10%.
Stockholm, where there was no stay-at-home, only has 7%.

Italy has a vaccine already

Most contracts have a provision for no payment under certain circumstances when a game is canceled. There are a lot of articles written about this. Here is one. https://www.toledoblade.com/sports/coll ... 0200424188

This country needs football, even if the players take a knee during the national anthem. Heck, I’ll take a knee with them. Sports teams are the most diverse groups in our nation and can bring our together together. Football can help the healing. Bring it on. Bring it on now.

There is no current vaccine available for community use and no country on earth that is close to herd immunity. Anyone familiar with the search services Google offers could have obtained that information in about 30 seconds. Since anecdotal descriptions of the severity of the virus seem popular, a 22 year old EMT in Greenville County died of the disease last week.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
