Cautiously optimistic about NIT.
Same

Maybe @ Clempson
Maybe at UofSC

Clempson will have to win their first ACC tournament game vs. Miami to be eligible for the NIT. They are currently 15-15 after last nights home loss to Ga. Tech. SC after their loss to Vandy today is out of NCAA consideration but a shoo-in for the NIT.

Utah State won mountain west so that’s one NIT bid made available. They were on bubble for NCAA and would have been a guarantee for NIT.
This prolly doesn't help any as USU's win just knocks another bubble team to the NIT.

DRatings dropped FU to a 6 seed after last night. They also have UNCG still in as a 7 seed. We dropped 9 spots in the NET to 77. Still will depend on one bid leagues champion winning their tournament.

NIT for a second straight season would be solid for the program
Hopefully we get a bid

We really need ETSU to win the tourney. I have zero confidence that they would get an NCAA at large. They would take up a spot in the NIT just like any other regular season champ that doesn’t win their tourney.

The Utah St win in the MWC does help free up a bid. Utah St was already an NCAA at large team along with top seeded San Diego St. All it does is secure Utah St in the field and takes them out of NIT brackets.

Gamecocks do not have to win SEC tourney to be in NCAA, but If they do not win 3 consecutive days and get to the final, they are most likely relegated to NIT. I know we want to be in NIT, but do we really want to face UofSC in CLA. Before the game it would be interesting to talk about 40th anniversary of the 1980 NCAA game. However, I think UofSC or Clemson would be an extremely tough NIT opponent for Furman.
Both the Gamecocks and the Tigers have had impressive wins this season.

At USC would not be my first choice of an opponent. But beggars can’t be choosers. I just want a bid.

There won’t be any easy games in NIT. A game at Clempsun or Carolina would be a fine challenge for this team.

A whole week is a long time to have to wait, but it is what we face.
Meanwhile, dreaming of NIT!
...Among schools mentioned as other possible participants, some that seem reasonable travel distance for Furman supporters, if we are fortunate enough to get in, include:
Clemson
UofSC
Tennessee
Radford
Richmond
VCU
... Of course, it will be great just to be in, “even if” it means having to go to a place such as:
Eastern Washington
Northern Iowa
Mississippi State
Arkansas (Fayetteville)
Oregon State
Little Rock
(No disrespect to any of those fine schools and places; nor to any schools not mentioned in this entire post who end up getting in.)
...Other places we may be able to go travel that would be interesting might include:
Texas
Stanford
Purdue
Notre Dame
UNLV
Nevada
... Bottom line: wherever we have to go, I just hope we get in. I am happy for us if we get to go anywhere.
And the real dream is having the chance to get to Madison Square Garden.
... Meanwhile, we wait; and instead of dreaming, we make the best of the time we have until we find out whether and where we are going to have an opportunity (opportunities) to go and play.

AP, rule changed. You don’t have to be .500 to make NIT. Go to selection process - no longer need .500, reg season champs that don’t make ncaa automatically get an NIT bid.

Holding my calendar open for 3/17 and 3/18 which is NIT first round.

Missed last year’s game. Don’t intend to miss this year.

A little good news this morning from the NET rankings. ETSU moved up one spot to #39. FU moved up 2 spots to #75.
dratings has moved FU back to a 5 seed and UNCG is still a 6 seed.

This NIT allows for more program growth indeed, remember we did CIT 2 years in a row, won 19 games in 2016 (with 1 win coming in CIT) then followed that with 23 wins in 2017 (2 coming in CIT, making it to CIT semifinals)

In 2018 we won 23 games but made a progressive decision that for the program it was NCAA's, NIT or bust, which is the right place for Furman to be in now.

Now fast forward and we get 25 wins in 2019 and make first NIT appearance since 1991, hoping our 25 wins in 2020 is enough to get us a second straight NIT appearance and possibly pull out some wins, P5 gives quality opponents in the field for us to go up against, and Madison Square Garden is still a fun opportunity for the final 4 teams.
Considering we only have 1 senior and will be not only loaded but probably the SoCon preseason favorite, all of this is gradual progress towards getting where we want to be, the sky is clearly not falling and everything is still looking very bright moving forward!

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
