Figured we’d lose him after a year or two, but to private business???

Very disappointing, I thought he'd be around this season at least. Bad timing for sure. I guess he really didn't want to be a coach after all. Like everything else, show me the money.

Bizarre. I wonder if private business means some sort of football business that allows him to charge HS, college, pro athletes to make them better? Would be better hours and more pay I'm sure.

Disappointing for certain. I also thought he might hang around for a few years.

I thought we’d have him for one season. Why did he not realize before taking the job what the money was going to be? Why didn’t he take that into consideration before “committing” to the job? Did he think he was going to get USC-level coaching pay? I will take the positive side of this with the following speculation: he discovered a lucrative opportunity that he figured would be more enjoyable for him and his family life; and he chose to do Furman a favor by resigning before the season instead of going through his one Furman season half-heartedly. Maybe he wanted to attend USC games, realizing that the Gamecocks are going to have an outstanding season, including beating Clemson at Clemson on November 24, the date when we hope to be in an FCS playoff game unless we earn a bye. I assume that Coach Hendrix would not have hired him if he thought he would not complete the season and do a good job. Unfortunately, I think this is embarrassing for Furman.

It’s more a reflection on Connor Shaw than Furman. It was Shaw who walked away from a commitment. The good news is we were able to promote from within and we get a coach who is dedicated and connected to Furman and has three years in the program already and understands the Hendrix way.

The only good things I see that he said about Furman are: “they are great people, and I really enjoyed working with them and the players in that room.” I am somewhat disappointed that I do not find more positive comments than that about the university, the program, the coaching staff, and the players, nor good wishes and “moral support” for the season and the future, etc. Let’s move on from this distraction.
Peace to you, Connor. Best wishes to you and your family.

Is it likely we will lose any early commitments from kids for whom Connor Shaw was the deciding factor?
Who knows.

Shaw is a name, but at bottom we lost a rookie TE coach. If he already had one foot out the door, it'll probably benefit our recruiting, not hurt it.

Remind me of why this is a big deal...It's a tight ends coach....Not an OC or DC or HC...If he wants to go into private business, than I wish him well...Just like the elf that wanted to be a dentist instead of an elf for Santa in that Christmas show...Let people go where their heart leads them.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
