and Jackal...look at the experience up front on the D-Line...I think the Defense should be pretty stout for 2018.
That's another aspect of that. We are probably as deep on the DL as we've been in many a year.

There are a few guys that are untested, but our front line and principle backups are quality. Staggs likes to rotate players a bunch, and keep guys hard charging for four quarters.

Coach Staggs tweeted we got another commit today, implying we have 4 defensive players committed now. Now two mystery commits, both on D.

If I am correct, Rabun County is coached by Coach Shaw's dad (and brother, I think)

You are correct Conners father Lee is the head coach and Jaybo is the OC and qb’s coach.

Austin Jones will be a great pick up… Staggs is putting together an impressive defensive class.

Veneziable — 6-1 220 ILB/OLB 3 star – 30 offers
Miller — 5-11 200 OLB/SS – 8 plus offers
Jones — 5-11 190 FS/SS – 11 offers

With apparently one more still to come, this appears to be one heckuva start to the recruiting class of 2019. With a few exceptions, I haven't seen this class of player at Furman since I watched the 2004(?) FU-GSU playoff game video on here recently. I love the level of HS football at which these kids are currently playing too. I don't know what our coaching staff is doing but they appear to be successfully fishing in a whole new stocked stream. As we saw from last season's huge turnout at Junior Day, FU is again becoming a hot place to play. The success last season and our exciting style of play on both sides of the ball is a big attraction for kids with the necessary academic qualifications and expectations. Another good season will only build on establishing a mystique like Stanford enjoys at the FBS level or Davidson in basketball.

Wofford peeps are also crowing about their unusually early haul of amazing commits. Not sure about the rest of the SoCon.

Reckon if this apparent trend is related to the early signing day? Could it be that FBS Schools are now being more ‘honest’ with kids on the ‘bubble’ resulting in them recognizing the value of and/or feeling the pressure to making a commitment to an FCS ‘committable’ offer before ‘the next guy’ does.

Or, maybe it’s just the results of last season for Furman & Wofford.

Or, maybe it’s the new energy of essentially new Staffs in both places.

Or, something else or something ‘elses’

Or, just coincidence(s).

What y’all think?

Just my observation, but it does not appear that Wofford is getting commits from guys with Furman offers. It does appear that all of Furman commits had Wofford offers.

Looking at their roster, Wofford has 16 seniors and 18 juniors. They lost a bunch of starting players off last year's squad, and will turn over most of their roster the next two years. I expect those figures warrant them pushing for a bigger recruiting class for 2019. By comparison, Furman has 11 seniors.

I am less impressed by the sheer number, though. Some of Furman's worst classes were the biggest. It turns into a grab for every available warm body willing to suit up for your football team, and sometimes you only get 4 or 5 contributors out of a 17 or 18 person class.

Austin has tied a fundraiser for a single mom with advanced cancer to his commitment announcement.

A great kid to think of using his platform to help others, deflecting some of the attention to a worthy cause.

I’d encourage all of us to help, even if you can just spare a little.

Also, both this year and last we are going head to head with James Madison for several players. JMU is a top 5 FCS program, has an elite defense, and they are going after some of the same guys we are.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
