To put it bluntly: we sucked. A bad day at the office.

Out-played

Out-coached

Over-confident

Over-rated

As of today we cannot execute defending the option and assignment football. That bodes poorly for the Wofford game.

No way our passing game could be this bad again this season.

The weather, the week off, whatever the cause we were BAD today! It happens to good teams.

We may control our own destiny as far as the conference championship and automatic playoff bid but we are no longer in the driver’s seat.

Good teams bounce back. Time will tell.

We do not have any room for error.

GO DINS!

Too many people were already talking about playoffs. Reality is we probably won't even host a home game if we make it in the playoffs. We're a good, young team, but not a great team. Citadel was the better team today and they are not playoff calibre.

It was UGLY for sure.

I personally did not see this coming.

It just goes back to the old adage that you cannot take anyone for granted.

In recent years , we had defended the option well. Not today.

I give Citadel credit. They dominated.

The only good news is that we do control our own destiny.

Coach Hendrix was spot-on on all of his post-game comments. He said we need to win out and that you will rarely win when you go 5 for 25 passing.

Hopefully we learn from our weaknesses which Citadel exposed and exploited and this loss will be a stepping stone to beating Wofford.

Disappointing effort. I've lost track of the last time I thought Furman looked good coming off a bye week. That's been a problem for a while.

Hard to sugar coat this one. I thought the defense played well enough to keep us in the game. That was one of the worst offensive performances we've seen in a while. The Citadel had something to do with that, but we had a lot of self inflicted wounds out there.

Against a few of these teams, we were able to have an off day and still win. We aren't good enough to do that against the better teams.

My hope is that this turns out to be a wakeup call this team needed. We cannot let the Citadel beat us twice, and will need to regroup and get after it next week.

We still control out destiny. Probably not if we play like we did today, though.

Fewest points given up by the Citadel all year including WCU and CSU. By far the fewest yards gained against them. 216 total yds. A lot of that came after the game was decided. CSU rolled up 380 yds on them. Everyone has had at least 300 yds.

Pet Peeve: "We control our destiny"

Sorry folks, nobody controls their destiny. Destiny is predetermined hidden power that controls what will happen in the future.

When I say that I mean that if we win out we will get in the playoffs-we will not need to be watching the scoreboard pulling for other teams.

The stats won't look good and the Citadel's defense had a good game.

Our passing game was abysmal, though, and really didn't have much to do with the defense. Guys were open. There was time to throw. Furman just misfired on virtually every pass attempt.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a passing game go as far off the rails as ours did today.

I’ve been close to posting this past few weeks “you aren’t as good as you think you are when you win.. and you aren’t as bad as you think you are when you lose”. But knew few people would listen even though it’s a true adage. It certainly applies.

All my fears - Before someone thinks im overreacting I said all these things .

1) I worried (really) about losing Staggs on option D. WE SUCKED NUTS at option D today w two weeks prep. Vaughn better get that SH$T tighter. Pass D has been better to be fair but SoCon plays option w Citadel and Woff. Two weeks of prep left us w that ??? WTF

2). Our LBs and safeties looked lost. Safety is a weakness in RUN STOPPING. Without Citadel fumbles we lose 30+

3). Main problem was our OL. Couldn’t get a dam yard on third and one several times.

4). QB 5/25 just missing wide ass open recvrs. Is he hurt? Thought about Sisson some.. at least some good runs late in game

We have a young QB with a limited number of starts at the position. He has looked awesome all year so I’m willing to give him a pass and say it just wasn’t his day. There may be validity to someone’s post on another thread that this may be his first live game action at QB in the rain? citadel was stacking the box and daring us to throw - we had open receivers all day and couldn’t hit them.

If we can blame it on the rain (there’s a song in there somewhere) we better figure things out by next week because it’s looking like bad weather again next Saturday.

How about you lose the language posting on this forum? Just because you get creative with your spelling doesn't give you a license to throw a hissy fit. You are absolutely overreacting.

We did not "suck" at option defense today. Our defense largely played well.

The Citadel was averaging close to 40 points per game in SoCon play and was as healthy as they've been in weeks. They broke a few runs here and there, but most of the game really didn't threaten the end zone.

In fact, 17 of Citadel's 27 points were off a short field handed to them by our offense. We couldn't get out of our own end zone in the third quarter. The Citadel had only one touchdown drive all game where they had to cross midfield.

Jackal, PaulC told me “WTF” on here and you didn’t get on him. Play it both ways bro

Also Citadel got in their own way w fumbles and a pick. THREE TURNOVERS in our favor in first half- ONE HALF!!!!!!! - and they still led ??? We got our azs kicked. Talked w another poster at half. He agreed.

Three turnovers IN A HALF and we were losing. OL. DL. LBs safeties. 5/25. Sucked. Asz kicking and we deserved it - overrated

Let me explain. You (Jackal) said we were back to one stage when we stomped a big South team. Step one complete. You said another step is when a team goes on road and wins a game like Samford - a team CH Had not beaten. Step two complete.

STEP THREE. Continuing to win once given a top ten ranking (several here said that this week sayin “what will we do with our top ten ranking?” I’ll tell you what we did with it... sucked. We did. so we aren’t what some thought we were. Not yet anyway.

But get my point which is we can have a GREAT YEAR. Just need to rebound from this. Use it as a learning experience

Also. Here is my thing. If I say on here that Cit is truly a threat no one wants to hear it. I honestly thought they were coming in healthier than they had been ( that’s just a FACT). I also really wanted to post a few weeks back we weren't as good as we thought we were but knew some here couldn’t handle the truth. That’s not harsh. It’s an axiom of life “you aren’t as good as you think you are when you win.. you aren’t as bad as you think you are when you lose “

So with that said I’ll take my own advice 😊 - I guess we aren’t as bad as we looked today

I get it was more OL and missed passes but the D did not look like the Staggs D that held Citadel to 20 and 17 the past two years without help of three turnovers in a single half. You talk points. That points trump all else. Well We gave up more points to Citadel
Today than in either year w Staggs

Guess I’m Mr Positive . I actually thought CH teams had done well off bye weeks two years. I’ll check. Pretty sure we have

Jackal - not snarky. Just asking man. What are you saying above ( the bold and underlined) ? Last year our best win was arguably killing Woff which was coming off the bye week. That was a tremendous performance coming directly from our bye week ! Are you saying we didn’t look good Vs Woff last year?

You know our off week score in 2017? 56-20 crushing of Citadel. So AGAIN same set up. Bye week option team and we CRUSHED. I don’t really see how you can say we don’t do well from bye weeks. Hendrix (w Staggs!!!) has KILLED teams given a bye week to prep for option

Also that’s what gave me faith playing Citadel. Same setup as both years. Option team. Bye week...

Here is 2017 and 2018 just like I was saying.. two of our best wins right after the BYE week and vs Wofford and Citadel option teams of all teams both years. Both years we dominated:
