Traditional football theory - I don’t know if it is true - is that rain will assist running teams. The ball is heavier with water, receivers have a more difficult time in route running, win effects flight path, etc.

A good soaker might make this game a battle of the offensive lines. I’d be ok with that.

that was my basic thought. I was truly interested in what others thought of rain and how it affects the game... I understand AP has a good point that you don't get a mud game anymore (like WOff 2002) so it's not as much a factor but a rainy day would seem to favor ol fashioned Ol - I am ok with that but would rather it be sunny. More home crowd! Also, I think we win OL either way and we do pass more so that possibly mitigates one advantage we have. (I think we are better on OL and in passing and would rather not lose all of the passing advantage) please beat Citadel !!!

any other thoughts on rain - former players?? others? really just curious what others have witnessed over the years in what type game it favors in general. thanks

The Wofford game in 2002 was more like a swamp or lake bowl rather than the mud bowl. I remember getting into the stadium and walking up to see the field-it was like 70 % of the field was covered in water. Unlike any game I have ever seen or most likely will ever see. Crazy! I remember the field had been used the night before for Spartanburg High school’s game. As I think I remember, Furman won.

We won in a thriller. It was an absolute mess. Spartanburg High had played the night before

Chamberlain Field!! At one time the oldest football field in the country (I think) One end zone wasn't even level ground. The back of it ran uphill.
