Rain
I heard him say the rain would begin late Saturday morning, with the heaviest coming in around 6:00. Maybe the tropical low will slow down and move more to the east, giving us less rain. But, we sure need the rain more than dry fans at a football game.
I would imagine they have already had to pay for those buses. Pass out the rain gear.

just a football question - what does rain wind affect from a football standpoint? I have to think we don't want wind.. we certainly pass more than Cit and believe heavily in our FG kicker... I think Wind is in their favor. What about rain? I know it affects attendance (boo). That hurts home field advantage. but how does it affect the game? I have seen it give the north south running game a big advantage (FU beats Western two yrs ago) as western wanted speed and we went straight at them. But what about triple option vs our offensive style? I am worried !!!

Since the advent of artificial turf I think rain has a minimal effect on games. Not like it used to be when you had to worry about footing, slipping and mud etc. I fully expect it will rain when we play at WC so then we will have to worry about those things. That is the only game we have left on natural grass.

I've always thought it helps the passing team since the receiver knows where he is going but that not as much as it used to be with all the artificial turfs. Unless it is pouring I don't see much problem catching the ball as they try to keep dry balls in the game and you have all the stickum gloves now.
FU has a big advantage in the rain, much more so than the Cadets, as the FU OL is highly trained for rain conditions. Sometimes at night when it is raining, the OL coach will pull the OL boys out of the dorms for practice. Traditional football theory - I don’t know if it is true - is that rain will assist running teams. The ball is heavier with water, receivers have a more difficult time in route running, win effects flight path, etc.
A good soaker might make this game a battle of the offensive lines. I’d be ok with that.

that was my basic thought. I was truly interested in what others thought of rain and how it affects the game... I understand AP has a good point that you don't get a mud game anymore (like WOff 2002) so it's not as much a factor but a rainy day would seem to favor ol fashioned Ol - I am ok with that but would rather it be sunny. More home crowd! Also, I think we win OL either way and we do pass more so that possibly mitigates one advantage we have. You can pass in the rain. The ball is a little heavier and receivers may have a harder time running routes, but usually they are rotating balls in and out of the game regularly and trying to keep them dry.
I don't think weather is any great disadvantage to Furman. The Citadel runs an offensive system reliant on a lot of quick backfield movement that may be affected by a wet field. While they don't throw downfield as often as Furman does, they pass the ball a lot - it just happens to be passed backwards instead of forwards.
Being a weather geek, I am looking at the satellite of the storm. I swear, it looks like the storm is heading more east than northeast. It might just go throught the middle of Florida and entirely miss us. Then again, it could come straight toward us. Point is, we will find out at noon tomorrow where the storm is headed.
