There's no lack of confidence in the Paladins around here. I've got the fever too and feel like there's a good chance we win out. But it worries me that there's still a lot of football in front of us, and a lot can go wrong between now and the end of the season. One major injury could change things dramatically. If the fans are feeling this good about things, I imagine the team is, as well, which is great for playing with confidence, but can create a trap, too. Take nothing for granted!
I'm of dual minds about this.
I've seen us marvelously blow games over the years. Furman, for a long time, raised losing to an art form. So, I'm not fully ready to walk with such swagger. I've been around long enough to watch teams I thought were really good lose with style (it's happening weekly in the FCS).
At the same time, I've watched the rest of the conference, and Furman, if playing sound football, is going to be really tough to beat.
I think the last two years have been building to this - these guys know that they want to win this conference outright. They don't want another team getting the autobid by default again. We've been a play or two away from outright titles the last two seasons, and this team, I think, isn't going to let that opportunity pass by.
