This has been hinted on multiple occasions by at least one poster on UFFP.
2023 season.
Gamecocks will also play Liberty that year.
Furman’s game at Williams-Brice will be either September 9 or September 23.
UofSC paying $500,000 for Furman game, and UofSC paying $1,500,000 for Liberty game which will be November 4.

They are going to be asking themselves”why did we schedule this game.”

Knew it was an SEC team just didn't know which one. Surprised it is SC but they have doubled what they pad FU last time.

Was there an official announcement? Don't see it on either website.
I saw article published by
thestate.com.
If you google “Gamecock football 2023”, you’ll see it published online from several media, including 24/7 Sports and Raleigh News & Observer. FBschedules.com show the game under “future schedules” for both Furman and South Carolina.
No official announcement by FU or by UofSC yet, nor apparently by any Greenville media yet.

Not to change the subject...but I'm having a brain lapse here.
Who are our OOC opponents for 2020 besides UT Knoxville?

The UT game is the only one we know about now for 2020. With only 3 OOC games next year we shoululd have one home game and one away FCS game. Hoping that away FCS game is not a return for the CSU .

I remember we play at Ole Miss in 2024 and believe we have a few games with Clemson again maybe?

It's stunning how much moving up to FBS increases the payout for otherwise very similar teams talent wise. I would be more than happy to put our 2019 Paladins up against the 2019 Liberty team, but apparently they deserve a million (!) more from USC to play them.

To be honest even if that is what happens, it should be an easy win in front of a less than hostile crowd and an easy road trip budget wise for the team and fans. Wouldn't want to get into a habit of playing there, but if it's what needs to happen to get more games at Paladin Stadium, then so be it.

It appears, per my perusal of FBSchedules.com, that Gardner-Webb, Richmond, and Villanova are still not filled up for OOC home games next year. But the same is true for CSU, who by the way goes to Arkansas next year and to Georgia in 2021. (Also of interest to me - I learned looking at FBSchedules.com that W&M of the CAA goes to play Stanford next year.)

Since you asked, here is the FBS games thru 2025:
2020-Tennessee
2021-NC State
2022-Clempson
2023-South Carolina
2024-Mississippi
2025-Clempson

As for Liberty getting a million more I think FBS has something to do with to but their expense are probably more. I assume they will fly where Furman would not.

Charlotte got $1M from Clemson and I doubt they flew.

Its becuase FBS teams can only count 1 FCS game towards bowl eligibility, so its easier for them to schedule those games, kinda like it would be easier for us to financially schedule a home game with Point than with another FCS team

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
