Today was a fun day. The FANFEST went very well at Timmons in the AM. Rather than just have all the players sitting in a row, they broke then up by position so that seem to take the long wait out of the experience. The players seemed to enjoy it and responded very well to fans' comments and questions. I didn't think have it in Timmons was a good idea but it sure felt good in the AC when temps got above 90.

Typical CCH scrimmage. Very plain vanilla offense so the defense looked very good. I thought that DeLuca and Shiflett stood out on offense and the entire D line looked very strong. Landon Lawrence at D tackle is a totally different player. He has put on 40 lbs. of muscle since his freshman year and has maintained his quickness off the ball. I continue to be impressed by the secondary. A rarely mentioned running back, Chase Apsier, made some of the best runs of the day.

Grainger took first snaps with the One Offense, followed by Sisson and then Hardin. Grainger has been in that position all week but I am not certain what that means. He is clearly preparing both Grainger and Sisson to play and I assume will chose a starter next week but maybe not. I made my own selection so I am not going to comment on their performances today other than to say they are both very improved from last year.

Another big thanks to Jasper!

. I’m not concerned except it’s been a long while since we had Watkins and now Wynn is being held out. Nothing wrong w noting this as CH has mentioned it several times. Any word on Wynn and Watkins ??? That’s our top 2 TBs !

(Glad Anderson is doing well but this offense requires multiple TB I think).

Is it possible the OL is over-rated? Not saying they are just throwing it out for discussion. In 2 scrimmages the offense has really struggled. Maybe it is like Jasper said, a very vanilla offense and the defense knowing what's coming?

I’ve never heard a coach give glowing reviews after a second scrimmage.

It’s a long preseason. It’s hot. They’re tired of hitting teammates. They’re ready for a real game. The defense has seen everything our offense can throw at them.

No way this OL Group is over-rated - I thought Clay made it very clear that not tackling makes it hard for the offense to move the ball.

My worthless take - I've seen two practices now and this defense is a different defense. The back of the defense Corners and Safeties are being transformed into a different animal. Coaches Ojong and Wright are fun to watch coaching their players. It looks to me that these two position groups are playing confident and physical.

As Jackal mentioned - it's been a hot physical pre-season.

yep, it is tough to move the ball when it's two-hand touch or whatever... no chance to break a tackle.. that said, he did say it was the 'worst' day the offense has had. Not worried but hope they have a better week this coming week

Case in point about not tacking. On an option play, Sisson faked the pitch and kept it for a 15 yard TD run. Only one defender got anywhere near him and that was a LB who dived and barely touched his jersey as he went by. That was enough to call the play back. That sort of thing happened several times. I put very little stock in the scrimmage at all for all the reasons already stated. I certainly don't think the OL will be a problem in any way. It had to be a 100 degrees on that field today. That leads to a lot of leaning no matter what level of FB we are talking.

As several people have mentioned, it was very hot. A great day to huddle under the press box as many did. I also saw plenty of umbrellas shielding people seated closer to the field. It's hard to tell too much from a preseason scrimmage especially in blazing heat, but certainly some positives to take away too.

I saw both QBs do some nice things. I'm very excited about what Shiflet brings as a receiver this season. Yes, there were times that the pass rushers got the best of the O-line. But Adrian Hope was one factor there and some improved guys on defense too. I thought Cameron Coleman looked good. I'm excited about the defensive front seven in general. Agbenou is impressive. As others have said, there was some good play in the defensive backfield as well.

Austin Jones looks like a good athlete. I believe Braedon Domino laid a nice hit on a receiver. I was impressed by what Cally Chizik did in drills before the scrimmage. Eager to see how it all plays out in less than two weeks.

Cujo Coleman is a big dude — 6-3 295! I've watched him a bit in practice and I'm excited about watching him play this season. I agree the Paladins front seven is going to make some noise.

Did Parker Stokes play? It's ok to ask because Vaughn mentioned it publicly in his twitter feed interivew.. he said Stokes was out and Coleman getting extra reps because of that. PM me if you prefer
