Off season stuff - feel free to disregard :)

You may enjoy reading the first link as it has some positive comments on Billy Napier :)

Good links about our second opponent I wanted to keep:

https://athlonsports.com/college-footba ... kings-2019

G State has 3 all-conference players on offense. Two OL and one WR, - the OL are Gilmore and Atkinson. The WR is Cornelius McKoy.
Their O is better than their D so they have one guy on all conference D - DL Terry Thomas.
https://athlonsports.com/college-footba ... rence-team

Went 2-10 in 2018 ... but GSU was a good team the year before n 2017. In 2018 they were very young and it showed. This year most of those players return so they should be better from a team that still beat Kennesaw State last year - a top 15 playoff FCS team.

Short summary ---
"Georgia State regressed from 7-5 in coach Shawn Elliott’s debut to 2-10 last fall. The Panthers played a handful of young players, so some improvement is expected in 2019. Standout receiver Penny Hart must be replaced, but quarterback Dan Ellington should help this offense take a step forward on the stat sheet. "

Most of their Units don't list as super strong except their WR unit which is listed as the 3rd best WR Unit in the Sunbelt ..

Top Freshman
Pick by Mitch Light: Sam Pinckney, WR, Georgia State

Georgia State did beat top 15 Kennesaw State last year- but they had to come back in the 4th quarter to do it. While I have no reason to think we are as good as Kennesaw State was last year, I believe we can be. I expect to beat Georgia State and I know CCH will have a great gameplan to exploit their youth and lackluster run defense.

A couple of interesting factoids -

GSU's new offensive coordinator is Brad Glenn. Glenn had been the OC at Western Carolina the last six or so seasons. Furman should be pretty well familiar with what GSU plans to do offensively. Granted, we didn't do a great job against that offense last year (a lot of that had to do with Tyrie Adams, though).

GSU's defensive coordinator is Nate Fuqua, who was formerly the DC at Wofford. Sheil Wood, also a former Wofford DC, is also on the staff.

None of that really matters, but it is nice to know that Furman should go into that game being very familiar with the Panther's offensive and defensive systems. There are a lot of SoCon ties on that GSU coaching staff.

We literally couldn't stop that offense. It was a turnover/ who-had-the-ball-last game. We did not look good on D vs that scheme.

I might be generous in saying we 'did not look good on D' that day. 444 yards of passing on our D? 444? 44-38 score where we gave up 570 yards of offense? I guarantee our DC was sweating that one. To give up 570 yards (and 38 points) is unacceptable

In 2017, I really saw great road turnouts in Birmingham, Spartanburg, and Elon. I can only imagine if Furman markets it right, that putting a football game with a quality Paladin team in the middle of Furman's largest alumni base would bring a great turnout.

I'll be there +5. Let's pack that away side! Buying the tickets online and printing them out was easy too.

Four peeps going to Atlanta on my end. 50-yard line tickets straight from GSU's website for 20 bucks each plus handling fees (which were minimal). Couldn't have been easier and haven't paid that little for a ticket in a long time. Can't wait!

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
