This won't shock anyone...I think it will be between Mercer and The Citadel for the final of three playoff bids in the SoCon this year...Mercer is damn good!! I mean damn good...As for The Citadel...We all saw how good they were with Rainey at QB as opposed to Black...Destroyed Samford and tied with Bama at half...How they are ranked seventh in the preseason I have no clue....Trust me on this...It won't be easy for Furman or Wofford....Thankfully for Furman's sake, both Citadel and Mercer come to Paladin Stadium.

I don’t think anyone can, intelligently, rule out any of those 7 as having an opportunity to be a legitimate contender. Sure, they all have possible weaknesses, BUT they all, for the most part, have taken very specific measures to address those weaknesses.

Gonna be fun...or something like fun, perhaps.

Mercer's a good team, but they are pretty much in the same position they've been for the last few seasons - the dark horse fringy playoff team that could "surprise" folks.

Mercer was picked 4th last season in the preseason (finished 7th). Picked 5th in 2017 (finished 5th). Picked 5th in 2016 (finished 5th). This season - you guessed it - the Bears are picked 5th.

The Citadel should also be good. I would put a big ole asterisk on that Samford game, though, as Sammy didn't play with Ahmad Gooden that day. You're kidding yourself if you don't think that was a big factor in the outcome.

If you allow “a big ole asterisk” because a Team didn’t have a DE, what sort of printed modification are you going to allow the Bears who played all 3 SoCon Champs with a 3rd Team walk-on FR, who didn’t even start for his HS Team, at QB; AND without their #1 All SoCon RB? I’d suggest 72 font, bold, and underlined might be appropriate.

Mercer scares the liven' crap out of me. Yes, I know that BL has been a 6 win coach forever... But when he has QBs is when he excels. And I think he has em now.

I would love it if we could win that game. After Wofford (in CONFERENCE) I really think Mercer is our next hardest and then Samford. I'll believe we have won those games when I see it

I fear ETSU far less than those 3.

That's why I don't like our schedule somewhat . I see Georgia State .and. Wofford and Mercer and Samford as our hardest ( discounting VTech) and all but Wofford are in our first half of the schedule as our QB is learning ....
