I hope we get someone that realizes basketball is the most important sport for Furman.

I hope we get someone who realizes that the overall good of Furman (as a very high quality university) is the most important thing about Furman sports. And at the same time, I do realize the importance of very high quality basketball for Furman.

Why so much love for a woman AD? Nothing wrong with it but the only one I can think of off the top of my head is NC State's and that hasn't worked out so well.
Not going to hijack the thread over this, but the overall NC State program is as good as it has ever been. As usual, football and basketball could be better (football has slowly improved), but the rest of NC State sports are doing very well. Pretty sure they had their highest Directors Cup finish ever last year (15th in the country) with the majority of those coaches contributing to that being hired by Debbie Yow. To play devil's advocate, the only other one I can think of was the woman at Miami. I don't think it ended well, but I'm not exactly sure. I think she was in charge when they transition from the Big East to the ACC.

Back to the not hijacking the thread part of this. I don't care whether the person hired is male or female as long as they are the best candidate we can get. Appreciate Mike Buddie's time here and wish him good luck going forward.

OK, here's what I believe is a complete list of AD's for Furman, from Lyles Alley to present.
It was Lyles Alley from ________ (some year after 1944) to June 1, 1975.
It was John C. West (who had been Associate AD under Alley) as Director of Men's Athletics June 1, 1975-August 1, 1979
It was Dutch Baughman from 1979 to 1983.
It was Dick Sheridan serving as both AD and Head Football Coach beginning September 1983 to 1986.
It was George Bennett from 1986 to 1989.
It was Ray Parlier from Aug 3, 1989, after George Bennett left. Parlier was initially Interim AD and was named AD in November 1989* (here corrected my typo from original where I had typed 1983 instead of 1989). Parlier stepped down July 31, 1995.
(David Shi had begun his tenure as president in 1994.)
It was Bob Warming August 1, 1995, through March 1996.
It was John Block as interim AD from March 1996, until July 1, 1996.
The AD position was eliminated July 1, 1996, when Dr. Block officially became VP for Intercollegiate Athletics. That position performed all the duties of an AD.
It was Gary Clark from September 1, 2000, to 2015.
(David Shi continued his tenure as president until 2010.)
It was Mike Buddie from 2015 to 2019.
(Elizabeth Davis had begun her tenure as president in 2015.)
****My appreciation to staff of Furman University Libraries who provided much of the above information. ****
So, not including Gary Clark’s 15 years, our 8 AD’s since Lyles Alley have stayed in the job an average of about 3.5 years.
That or a little better (4 to 5 years) is probably about what we should expect out of the next AD hire. Let’s go for the best we can get, rather than someone we select mainly because of expected longevity.

Furman just announced a pretty important hire of a new marketing director. Now this could have been in the works for a while and signify nothing, could mean they're not close, or could indicate they're staying in house. I don't think they will actually start the 2019 season without an AD. I like what I've read about Erin Wissing, especially her experience at KSU. You've got to admit they got up to speed quickly there. Anyway Friday in mid-July speculation of someone ready for some Furman sports.

I agree that Erin Wissing would be a good choice.

I agree that Erin Wissing would be a good choice. My opinion is that it would be highly beneficial to Furman for Erin Wissing to be in the AD position.

My only exposure to her was at a couple of the Paladin Club basketball drop-ins. I’m curious about her overall performance as director of the Paladin Club. Have we reached our membership and $ goals under her leadership? What have been her interactions with the coaches and other staff and administrators? This would be a tremendous jump for her. I believe the AD position at Furman would generate a tremendous amount of interest from a good sized pool of candidates with considerable experience.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
