Parham leaving doesn't have zero impact on the conference but it isn't likely to impact next year's championship race much. He would not make VMI a threat for a first division finish by himself, but he certainly increased their chances of an occasional upset. They gave Kentucky a surprisingly tough time this year behind 35 points from Parham. They lost by 10 and were as close as 6 with 1:28 left in the game. They lost to UNCG and ETSU by only 3 points. They seemed to be putting things together by winning 4 of their last 5 games. A BIG hit to their 2019-2020 outlook.
Chattanooga losing their top three scorers early, including the SoCon FOY, probably will knock them out of a contender status.

Even bad teams have their moments. VMI was #288 in KenPom. They stunk and were last in the conference. Losing the top rebounder in the SoCon will hurt, although they do still have 6'10" Mladen Armus and two 7'0" juniors on the team. And they will probably grab some JC transfers to add immediate help.
Mercer picked up a promising transfer - Neftali Alvarez - a 6'2" freshman at Fairfield. Alvarez was second in scoring for Fairfield. His 11.5 ppg was just behind the 12.3 ppg of the top scorer. He lead them in assists and steals and minutes played and was third in rebounding. Alvarez was a 3 star rated player and Verbal Commits claims offers for him from Virginia, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Wichita State and VCU among others. Makes you wonder how he ended up at Fairfield (no offense to Fairfield.) Fairfield fired their coach and Mercer's new coach came from Purdue, so that might be the connection.

Dunno for 100% sure about hoops, but FBS Football cannot give partials. Only Full. According to this STORY Cattoor was contacted personally by Furman, Davidson, and Florida Atlantic after getting his release. North Carolina and Central Florida contacted his AAU coach and Wichita State talked with his mother.
Justin Pierce, a player Furman was after a few years ago, is leaving William and Mary and has narrowed his choices to North Carolina, Michigan, and Notre Dame.
Three players from the 10 win 2017-18 Samford team grad transferred to Arizona, Louisville, and N. C. State. They all became starters. Justin Coleman lead Arizona in minutes played and assists and was 4th in scoring. Christen Cunningham lead Louisville in assists and was 2nd in scoring and minutes played.
