My bet is Freshman Austin Jones starts at the other S spot opposite Okeh. He was one of the kids that started classes in Jan and participated in spring practice.
agree with Paul… lots of bodies will hit the field in the fall. Lots of young talent, my interest is who steps up and contributes. I have a guess or two.
Corners
Trapp SR
Weems SR
Kearse JR
Coach Ojong - has already proven his value to the coaching staff - getting WEEMS to come back and play for him. Also, the dude has a great social media presence, watch for him to bring in some great players. The top three are solid.
Domino RSFR
Blackshear RSFR
Washington RSFR
Redshirts. Domino is a tall corner (6-1) he played a lot in the spring. Blackshear is a great athlete. Could the 4th spot be locked down between these two players?
Safeties
Okeh SR
Clay JR
Wells JR
Harden JR
Griffin RSFR
Silvestri RSFR
Furman has another high-energy, popular coach in Corico Wright, I expect this group to play on fire. Okeh, Clay, and Wells have a lot of snaps. Harden played in eight games. Will Jonah Griffin see the field in 2019?
The Freshmen
Austin Jones S - Jones enrolled early, played a lot in the spring, I would circle Jones as the favorite to take over Annoor's spot.
Hugh Ryan S - had a great prep career at the highest level of South Carolina High School football. Playing in the Shrine Bowl Ryan earned a staring role on a defense loaded with FBS talent. The result Ryan led the Sandlapper defense with 9 tackles and a sack. I'd like to see Ryan redshirt add some muscle and compete for Okeh's position in 2020.
Kam Brinson CB - AJC All-State. Chose the Paladins - over Navy, VMI and Charleston Southern - had 54 tackles (43 solo tackles, 11 assisted, eight for loss) and two interceptions. Brinson could see PT in 2019.
Cally Chizik - Chizik committed early to Furman over Chattanooga. After a great senior season (40 solo tackles, 14 pass break-ups, five tackles for loss and two interceptions) more attention came including a walk-on offer from Auburn. I'll quote Chizik “I’m not taking a walk-on spot anywhere.” I expect Chizik to compete for PT in 2019.
JJ Wang - I want to know more, curious how we got a player from Saratoga, CA.
