Hopefully some FU fans and students will show up for this game.. Fan turnout was pathetic yesterday. ETSU and Wofford fans filling the joint. Mercer's cheerleaders were louder than FU' fans yesterday - lot of older FU fans in the lower level pricey seats that probably belong in the geriatric ward - wouldn't hurt to stand up and get behind your team.

Son, we live in a world where athletic success comes with bills and those bills have to be paid by people who have discretionary income. Who's going to pay those bills? You, Paladin91? Furman art history majors?

That 'geriatric ward', while grotesque to you, has financed more of what you have the luxury of enjoying than you can possibly fathom. Deep down inside, in places you don't post about on message boards, you want them writing those checks, you need then writing those checks. Rather than being critical, I prefer you say "thank you". Otherwise I suggest you reach into your back pocket, grab your check book, and start paying the bills.

Blowing the lead against UNCG is reminiscent of blowing the lead against Samford. We were too tentative in both games and lost games we should have won. Hopefully, we will learn from this meltdown. Otherwise, a great season and hopefully we get another chance in the NIT.

Up by 5 with 4:51 left. I would take that any day of the week. Unfortunately, unlike Wofford, we have not had a closer this year, a “go-to” guy when it is time to step up in the last few minutes. Rafferty came closest to that.

I think Rafferty’s atypical shooting % of 6 for 15 was in part due to his wrist.

Looking forward to the NIT.

To be fair, Furman has closed out virtually every game the last two years.

They didn't close out the Citadel last year in Charleston or Samford at home this season. They faltered down the stretch against a really good UNC-G team. This isn't typical. They've actually been really good at closing the door.

Bummer, thought this was going to be the year

Major Side Note:
While we made some poor plays in last few minutes it was the terrible old SoCon refs that allowed UNCG to stay in the game in the first place
Alonso getting away with travels and fouls being called lopsided in UNCG favor among other things

The average age of the SoCon refs has to be 60+ and these are some of the worst refs in Division 1 basketball without a doubt
Something has got to change and for starters Mike Wood (Director of officials) has got to stop giving jobs and stop creating crews of his old buddies, these are guys that should be long retired from offciating by now
To anyone who has a shred of a clue about basketball you know exactly what I mean, its just getting more absurd every year it seems

Listen Sonny, those 'worst refs in Division 1 basketball' have refereed more games than you have ever had the luxury of enjoying. And deep down inside in places you don't ever think about (because why think about it, that's ridiculous) you want them refereeing those games, you need them refereeing those games! So say 'thank you' to Karl Hess and those other two guys who can't tell the difference between a blocking or offensive foul, or a blocking foul from a jump ball, or how many steps is two, etc etc etc.

I've seen people ejected from games for this type of officiating.

We went 4 deep on our bench, UNCG went 5. But if you take away Brown's 28 minutes the other 3 only had 14. All but one of UNCG's bench had double digit minutes. Over the last 5 minutes we went 2-9 from the field, UNCG hit 100% of their fg's.

With Rafferty's injury and that little bench production during a three day tournament, even with a win our chances against Wofford would be poor.

Agreed! But would have at least liked to have been in the finals! A national TV game is always huge.

Wes Miller has improved tremendously as a coach over his tenure. We will see the same with the passage of time. Things are moving the right direction. It is tough losing a player like Rafferty, but we see light for the long NCAA drought to end. For a long time, we did not even have the hope.

Why do we look like a high school team when faced with a press/trap? This has been my only frustration all season.
We have one PG. And no other really reliable ballhandlers. Bothwell is ok but he's a young and still adjusting, as was evident a few times last night.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
