I’ll ask the question again. Which would be better “for Furman” - NCAA or NIT? Sounds like the distribution of money is slanted to the bid-winner and the confernences’s operating fund, which sounds a lot like the commissioner’s salary.

If Furman had to pay $100K to play in NCAA, it would still be a no-brainer: NCAA >>>>>> NIT

It's not even a question. An NCAA bid is better than 10 straight NIT bids. Fill in with whatever exaggeration you need.

Everyone in the league benefits from an extra bid, and, if you read the article, it appears that extra NCAA shares would continue to enhance the conference's basketball enhancement program, which seems to have paid dividends over the past few years.

I'm a little confused ... the way I read the article, the auto bid team gets no money, but the at-large team would get two shares? That doesn't seem to make sense me.

But regardless, the extra money would be huge for the conference. Even if the money that's going to the conference pays the salaries of staff members for 6 years, that's still a cost that the school's wouldn't have to take on. But I'm guessing most $ would go into that pool that "rewarded programs for hitting benchmarks in scheduling, winning and RPI improvement; and a line of credit to help teams buy guarantee games at home, take international trips and host multi-team events." Makes sense to me.

It has been my impression that the auto-bid winner gets a double share of the NCAA money that is divided among the schools. Some conferences give increasing shares of the money to teams that advance past the first game.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
