I could be eating my words Saturday night, but I absolutely love this bracket for Furman. We've controlled Mercer for two games, were in both games with UNCG, winning one, and would get Wofford in the finals. Also, we would have consistent time slots (8:30ish, 6:30ish, 7) as opposed to Wofford, who would be playing at noon, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Small advantages, but I'll take anything in a tournament with this much at stake.
Don’t count out playing Samford on Sunday. By the way, coaches hate the Saturday evening time slot. By the time the team gets back to the hotel and winds down, it’s probably after 2:00 a.m. before sleep time arrives.
True, but the guys will get to sleep in, eat breakfast, probably head out for a quick shoot around, come back and nap/relax/pre-game meal before heading to arena. So not ideal, but still evens out pretty well.

He said it better than I could, but I was wondering about NG's pro potential earlier this year. I'm curious to see how Noah improves his game in the off season. He could be nasty as he gets older. He appears to have the base layer of tools to make a run at the NBA, athleticism and height seems about what you need, which is what has held a lot of former Furman players back. Plus he can shoot the 3 some.

Looking at you Furman, get on the ball and do something to get students up there to support the program, its your move to make

Furman students will be on Spring Break...I doubt you'll see more than a handful. I counted about 20 college age Furman fans at the Semifinal game last year.

As a local comparator: He's slightly taller, less athletic, and slower than Perry Dozier who was a 6' 6" PG and lead SC to the Final Four as a sophomore. Dozier declared for the NBA, went undrafted, and has a two-way G League contract with the Celtics three years into his professional career.

And that is something that NEEDS to change, absolutely ridiculous that Furman can't figure this crap out after all these years now!

Not sure which professional league Jackson Hoy was referring to, but, at this point, NG's not an NBA candidate. He either needs to put on about 40 lbs. of muscle, grow about 3-4 inches, or become a three-point specialist extraordinaire.
PJ Dozier on the Boston Celtics is not a good comparison, PJ can't shoot to save his life, shot 21% from 3 as a freshmen at USC

Noah Gurley would project as a SF in the NBA, of course everything is predicated on Gurley getting stronger to go along with his 6'8 frame and continuing to improve his shooting. Gurley is 32% from 3 right now, take a look at Mounce freshmen to sophomore shooting increase, 20% to 43%, it can be done with hard work.

I'd match Alex Hunter up with Noah this off-season for both on and off-court workouts.
Alex put on a ton of muscle and shot 35,000+ 3-pointers...and it's paying dividends. IMHO he's the most underrated player in the SOCON.

Having read the Hoy tweets (more than one) on Noah, I don’t think he means to say he is draft worthy right now, but that he could become such.

Also, it will be interesting to see how he develops. He is playing 4 now but will get some time at the 5 next year I suspect.

We shall see. Time will tell.

If my aunt had a Johnson, she'd be my uncle. A lot of IF's in your comments.

Any of those highlights come from LSU game? Doing these things in the SoCon and doing them against top drawer talent are two different things. What did he do against LSU? 1 RB, 0 assists, 3 points.

I've been an NBA season ticket holder and I can say without any hesitation that the SoCon talent level ain't close to the SEC talent level and the SEC talent level ain't close to the NBA talent level. It's possible with a lot of IF's, but the same could probably be said for a 100 guys.

Spring break started on Friday and the tourney weekend will be when they’re coming back so I’m sure we will see more than a handful of students come up to Asheville!

Well, you're projecting NG based on his height and athleticism, so they are similar in each and, to be honest, the G-league guy at the end of the bench on a two-way contract was the only remotely realistic comparator. BTW, Dozier will likely play in Asia next year.

As I say, that was the only realistic comparator I could think of. The SF on that same team just so happens to be roughly Gurley's age and height, so that was a possible comparator; comparing Gurley to Jayson Tatum would be laughable, however.

I sense you guys are not that familiar with the NBA.

Don't be naive and think he should already be setting the world on fire, and that season tickets makes you a NBA scout :D
He has the tools, I like to think of him as a potential Kyle Kuzma type, look what Kuzma did as a freshmen, not much

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
