Furman's staff for sure knew who he was. There are a ton of factors in recruiting . . . no one, including Murray State, had any idea what Morant would develop into. He was a solid mid-major prospect . . . one out of every 10,000 - 15,000 or so of those guys turns out to be an NBA star. Murray State is also a pretty prominent mid-major program, it's not like he went to UNC-Asheville.
It's not to the same degree of course, but you can similarly wonder where other D-I programs were with respect to Furman players. Mounce and Gurley didn't have any other reported D-I offers (though I suspect they may have picked some up if they hadn't signed in the early period).
