Just seeing this. I am in the mid Atlantic, lax hotbed and my son was a d2 lax recruit.

Just about everything we did for the Lax program at FU got done wrong. Coach hire was wrong. Richie tried to pull kids down from the NE and MidAtlantic and a lot just did not want to go to a small private in SC they had never heard of. Meanwhile we have good athletic kids in the South who are learning the game who could have been coached up. If we had gone with a more fiery young coach who was more of a teacher, willing to focus recruiting more from FL, Atlanta, CLT/RDU that would have gone better IMO.

Meade also wanted to schedule the toughest damn teams in the country as much as possible. And we could not win. It was a bad look.

I wish there was a way to go back and have a do over with a different coach and plan to really build something instead of a guy who just wanted to bring in a bunch of kids from MD/PA/NJ and roll it out there and win right away.

FYI Meade was paid around $250k per year and was on the payroll at least thru 2022 per the 990

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
