• PR Explosion for Wofford

Watching Today Show, Craig Melvin, a Wofford grad, did a nice piece on Wofford with interviews with MY, Fletcher, students, President etc. Check it out https://www.today.com/video/wofford-s-f ... 2258243694
This is another example of the love and attention Wofford is getting from sports as well as other media. Priceless. FU was there at the start of the season and with a few more made shots it could have been us with all that national PR. I believe we pretty much maxed out our potential and I, for one, am very pleased with our season. Coach BR and our team deserve a lot of praise and credit. Wofford’s success on the.court and in the media shows what is possible when your team plays and wins at such a high level. People love a David and Goliath story, the underdog , the little guy, the overachiever. That’s us and our story is waiting to be written. We want to go dancing. In the meantime, I wish Wofford a lot of success in their NCAA run and I wish FU a lot of success as we continue to build our basketball program. Let’s do this!!

Kudos to Wofford and Mike Young for a great season. I was pulling for them to go all the way. MaGee was just cold today from 3 point range. Sorry he will not get another chance against Kentucky. The announcers kept commending the Kentucky defense. I agree with what Magee himself said-that the defense was not that different than what he routinely saw in the Southern conference. Lucky for Kentucky he was a little off today or Wofford would be advancing. Kudos to Magee for a great career and Wofford for a great season.

Now back to my purple blood. GO PALADINS!

Only one team in the NCAA tournament will end their season with a win.

So what? No matter what you say, there are many amazingly great memories, and much publicity that is extremely valuable and long-lived, from just getting into the NCAA tournament for small schools such as Wofford (which has now done it 5 of the last 10 years!), Gardner Webb, Colgate, Abilene Christian, Iona, etc. There is only one team that will end the tournament with a win, but I guarantee that Wofford is not feeling like a loser! If one’s team goes 39 years without being in the tournament, it is somewhat understandable why one would write “only one team will end with a win”. Wofford, Gardner Webb, Colgate, Iona, and Abilene Christian can all make that statement a positive: “we did not win it all, but neither did 67 other teams that made it to this great tournament.” (Perhaps that is how Flagman meant it when he posted it - as a positive compliment to Wofford.). I want Furman to catch up with Wofford. Maybe we can, but it also may take much longer than 10 years. For now I say “way to go Wofford, and congratulations!”

I think he meant it as they have nothing to hang their heads about which is true

Well with the exception of maybe Fletchers NBA hopes

My apology for misinterpreting what he meant. It did not seem that way when I first read it. But I agree with you - I now think he meant Wofford has absolutely nothing to hang their heads about.

The Kentucky defense did nothing unusual and does not deserve credit for "holding" Magee. He simply could not hit the side of a barn today. That may have been the worst shooting day of his life. 0 for 12 is ridiculous for a guy of his caliber. The previous night he was hitting most of the same shots with the same degree of difficulty. Announcers just need something to say to fill air time. I never agreed with the adage that shooters should keep on shooting. If you're off, you're off. Find another way to help your team. Drive the ball more, pass more, get some rebounds, etc. He or his coach should have figured that out long before an 0 for the game from 3.

Absolutely right. But he can’t help his team in any other way. That’s all he’s got. Unlike MR, who’s a jack of all trades.

Fletcher will never see an NBA court. He may get to a camp but is too limited athletically to play at that level. A huge defensive liability.

However, like Matt R, he can make a lot of money playing in Europe.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
