The lady Paladins lost a very tough game to the perennial SoCon power, Mercer today by a narrow score of 66-63. Mercer needed a career 30 point game from KeKe Calloway and a 12 point 4th quarter from Shannon Titus, who was scoreless before that outburst. Once again, Tierra Hodges was outstanding, as was Taylor Petty and Kaitlin Duncan for the Dins. The game came down to the final possession with FU missing 4 attempts at knotting 3 pointers unfortunately. Congratulation to Jackie Carson, her staff and all the young women for a great season. In the words of the old Brooklyn Dodgers " WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR". This is a very young and talented Furman team.

This team deserves some post-season. The WBI, if still around takes 16 teams that miss the NCAA or WNIT. UNC-G was runner-up in '17.

The field for the WBI consists of a 16-team, single elimination divided into two regions with 8 seeded teams in each.[1] Teams are picked based on RPI, record, conference standings, end of year performance, and quality wins and losses.[2]
Teams in the WBI compete on the home court of the higher seed. The championship game is hosted by the team with the higher RPI. Teams not making the NCAA Tournament or WNIT are eligible for the WBI. "

Sounds like another pay to play tournament.

I hate that they lost and came up short of SoCon championship and ending Mercer's streak. In reality I have seen Mercer as a 16 seed and matched with #1 Notre Dame. That will be a beatdown of epic proportion. Maybe their is consolation somewhere in that, maybe not.

The women will be playing in the WNIT by virtue of their second place regular season finish.

I do not think that is the case unless it is different than the men. In the men only the regular season champ has a guaranteed spot if they don't go to the NCAA.

As FU was #2 to Mercer in both the regular season and the tournament, looks to me like they're in. This from the WNIT website:
Format
The Postseason WNIT features ... 32 automatic berths, one to each established conference, and 32 at-large berths. The WNIT field and bracket is announced late on the evening of the NCAA Tournament selections.

Unless there's a market for women's NCAA brackets, your point makes me think the ladies are even better off in the WNIT, where they might have a chance for a longer run.

I guess the women are different that the men since they have double the teams 64 vs. 32. Good news.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
