Don't look now, but with all the excitement surrounding the Paladin men's BB team, our women's team is quietly on the verge of going to the Big Dance themselves. After a dramatic win today over Chattanooga, the Lady Paladins play Mercer for the SoCon tournament championship on Sunday. This is a very likeable and gutsy group of young women who overcame a Samford team that drained 7 three pointers in the 1st qtr. yesterday to come back and beat them handily behind a brilliant effort from Tierra Hodges. Today, Jackie Carson's team led all the way until late in a tight game when Chattanooga took the lead. Once again, Hodges led Paladins fought back to retake the lead and finish off the Mocs. Although the Mercer team they face on Sunday won both contests against FU, it was before Hodges returned from a season long injury and was able to round into playing form. She had double doubles in each of the games thus far in Ashville and adds a rebounding and defensive presence we did not have. This team has a real chance of beating Mercer, the defending and current league champs. Jackie Carson and her girls are to be congratulated on a very fine showing. With only one senior on the roster, the future is looking very bright for our women's team indeed.
