I just read that no player (since these stats were tracked some 40 years ago) has EVER finished with this stat line:

17/9/4/2 points/boards/assists/steals

Yes, that is exactly where Matt is right now!

Conversely Magee is 20/2/1/0/0, so he can score 3 more points by shooting 4.6 more shots per game than Rafferty and nothing else, not impressive by comparison Mr. Flopper Magee

He averages 1 assist a game? Yikes.

Actually, at least two other players are known to have reached those numbers. One was Ron Harper, the 6'6" wing/guard who played at Miami of Ohio in the early 1980s and went on to play 15 seasons in the NBA which included 5 NBA champions. The other player was Larry Bird. Bird actually averaged better than 17/9/4/2 for his three years at Indiana State.

Some elite company for Rafferty, if he can finish the season strong.

Those numbers were before Harper blew out his knee when he was Dwayne Wade before there was a Dwayne Wade.

But Fletcher Magee shoots a lot of 3 pointers, AND he tried out for the NBA! He didn't make it but he did talk to Magic Johnson. Also, 3 pointers! Throw 'em up there, it could hit all glass but it might go in. Who cares, it's Fletcher Magee!

Oh and to those couple of fans that use the Wofford board that think its classless to call Flopper Magee a flopper, don't be blind and ignorant because what he does is obvious, its called calling a spade a spade. Kid can shoot the rock pretty good, but he is also 100% the biggest flopper I can remember playing in the SoCon ever.

He's a very good shooter. That needs to be emphasized. He will make some good money in some league next year shooting the rock. But I'll take MR's all-around game all day long and I think our guy is a more deserving player for Player of the Year. And I'll keep beating that dead horse until the awards are announced.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
