Kansas lost their first game of the season. Creighton won 76-63. It was the first Kansas road game of the year. Nice to be able to play most of your games at home, but there is a downside.

The So/ASUN challenge was about even before tonight but the the SoCon went 4-0 tonight to take command. Mercer, Western Carolina, and Wofford all won easy.

The SEC has been whipping the ACC in their challenge. Alabama beat UNC by 15 tonight, Virginia lost by 18 to Florida,Vanderbilt over Virginia Tech by double digits, #18 Pittsburgh was routed by unranked Miss. State by 33.
Clemson upset Kentucky at Clemson is one of the ACC's few highlights. Duke has a small lead over Auburn with 7 minutes to go and NCState and Texas are going to the wire. About the only other bright spots for ACC, but those games aren't finished.

Duke wins so the ACC goes 2-14 vs. SEC. 8 of the SEC were by 20+ points. Only 3 were close. The once proud ACC has falken so far, really hard to believe.

Kansas lost their second in a row. This time it was another road game, at Missouri. Missouri is now 8-1. This is easily their best win of the season. They lost to Memphis (road game) to start the season and had been feasting since then on mid major and low major opponents. All at home. Missouri doesn't play another actual road game until January, when they go to Auburn.
Kansas shot about the the same percentages as Missouri and dominated the rebounding 40-29 but had 22 TOs to 11 for the Tigers. Missouri shot 20 more FTs and made 15 more.

Auburn beat Richmond by 44 points. Nine players for Auburn played double digit minutes. JP played four. He went 0-3 but Richmond didn't score the last five minutes of the game so maybe JP was D'ing it up against the end of the Richmond bench... When Gurley transferred to Alabama he started a couple of games before taking a reserve role but at least he was getting regular minutes and making a contribution. Even had a few starring moments including one nice game in the NCAA tournament. Looking like a tough senior year for Pegues so far. While to go, though.

FGCU lost 80-71 at 8-1 LSU. Harvard pulled away in the second half to pick up their third win of the season 72-62 at New Hampshire. Watched a bit of that game. Harvard has some good athletes, especially at guard, but they appear to be a young group and turned the ball over 19 times.

Mercer beat Stetson 89-83 on the road in a SoCon/ASun challenge game. Most of the stats were about equal except for Mercer's 8 fewer TOs. Stetson has only 1 win so far this year.. Samford won at home 72-47 over Austin Peay in another challenge game. Game was close at halftime but Samford dominated the second half. Bad three point shooting by APSU and a large Samford rebounding edge looks like the story there.

Money wise for now Pegues is probably happy......
Basketball 'career' wise Pegues has got to be very unhappy......

Some notable results -

Wofford went on the road and knocked off St. Louis. St. Louis doesn't have a great team but anytime a SoCon team can win on the road against an A10 team it is worth mentioning. With the win Wofford goes to 5-7 and SLU goes to 6-5. Wofford's first road win and SLU's first home loss.

ETSU smashed Elon by 26 in Johnson City. Normally not that notable but Elon has been improved this year and had a big upset early, beating Notre Dame by 7 at ND. They also were on a four game winning streak that included a 15 point win at Penn and a 23 point victory over Wofford.

Arizona beat Samford by 32. Slightly misleading score. Samford trailed by 23 at the half but were still down about 20 with 5 minutes left. Arizona pushed the score to the final margin in the last two or three minutes. Arizona with a big rebounding edge and a much higher FG%. Many of the other stats were about equal but Samford had fewer TOs. I think Samford's philosophy of "better a missed shot than a turnover" applies here.

Alabama went on the road and barely escaped with a 97-90 win at North Dakota. The game was even closer than the score hints. It was tied with 2 minutes to go. UND had a small lead most of the first half. One of Alabama's top players is from North Dakota and transferred to Alabama last year. He had 23 points in his return home.

Notre Dame lost to Western and the bellhops last year. We need to get them on the schedule.
