I realize you are joking when you say that.
Just in case someone else may not realize you are joking:
363 schools have D1 men's basketball.
REALITY is important.

What is the joke?

That Furman might beat Kansas?
Or
That Furman would be top 25 w a win over Kansas?

Reality is that Furman has been ranked top 25 in 2018
The joke was neither of the 2 things you said.
The joke was that Louis Tully said we WILL be. It is true that we WOULD be, but “will be” and “would be” are different.
We could.
Anything can happen.
It is joking to say something that merely “could” happen (but is so unlikely) “will” happen.

Let’s philosophize… my opinion on a matter such as this is that the likelihood or unlikelihood of a particular outcome is irrelevant to a winner.

No matter how likely or not, winning IS seriously and realistically (not jokingly) included somewhere in the many list of possible outcomes. I believe a winner understands that and mentally discards the many remaining odds of losing in favor of the one and only strategy that will aid in realizing a win: believing in it. Saying I MIGHT win in my head doesn’t cut it. I have to know I have a shot, even a small one.

Without that belief, the chances of my winning plummet, not because I didn’t necessarily have the ability but because I simply don’t believe it.

This is strategy, people. Life strategy. Everything else being the same, your single best strategy for manifesting hope and success in any situation is positive thoughts and actions.

And in the same way, your best strategy for manifesting losing is to believe the odds are unbeatable.

FTS. Beat Kansas. Beat everybody.

Absolutely. Great post. I have always thought FU won many games in football especially because they were expecting to win while the more talented opponent was expecting to lose.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
