Good morning. I am the admin/founder of Moc Nation for those who don’t know me. Before that I was one of the admins of Moc Fans so I have been doing this for about 20 years. One thing I have noticed over the years is that while some of the media is informed and does their job well, we as most any conference, have media that is un-informed. That same media gets to vote on preseason and postseason polls and players of the year. IMO many of us hardcore fans know the conference better than that segment of the media.

So, what I am proposing is that we have a SoCon Fans Power Poll. There will be a representative from each school who will vote weekly in an email ranking the conference teams. Initially it will be for men’s basketball only. Each representative will not be allowed to vote for his/her school, thus at least partially eliminating some built-in bias. If this works out well, we could look at adding football and women’s basketball next season. If we can show we take this serious maybe the SoCon will give us some credence and acknowledge our efforts.

I will take the lead for this first season and compile the weekly poll which will be done by an email in system. So, what I am asking of you is to come up with one person for your school who will agree to take the time and do this seriously. Who is that fan for your school? You guys can figure that out.

I will check back in a day or two and hopefully you will have a name and an email address.

Additionally, anybody know any serious fan for UNCG? They don’t have a board that gets any traffic that I can find.

I appreciate the nomination Hoopla. I will accept only if Roundball declines. I think Rounball is the most level-headed Furman fan on this forum lol!

Let's give Roundball 24 hours to claim if he's interested, after that FurmanFan23 is your man

I am guessing in years where UTC was unanimous SoCon pick from coaches and media you would not have bothered to want to do this fan poll

I have always thought the fans knew better than much of the media. There are media who pay attention and vote smart, but there are ones who don't deserve a vote. Coaches votes are usually better, but they are usually cast by somebody in the SID office, not the coaches. WIll be interesting seeing how the fans vote. We may do a mid season all star team and then pick post season players. I will check back tomorrow. Thanks.

I have never been called level-headed. lol. Hard-headed, yes. Having my name mentioned is an honor and I appreciate it. I better decline as I am spending a lot of time between Greenville and Columbia checking on my 90 year old dad. Need prayers on that. FurmanFan23 is the right person. Thank you for accepting this role to represent the Paladins fans in this poll.

UNCGFans.com is the site where I've seen Spartan fans post. There are 3 or 4 posters who have contributed in the past year or so. I see at least one guy who last posted in July. That would probably be your best bet for a voter. He goes by Spartanfan53.
