Good thread title. Looks like this team has a couple of huge problems and there are no simple solutions. First of all, we play poor defense. Every team seems to shoot well against Furman. That is either bad luck or bad defense. I think the latter. Defense is 75% attitude. We need an emergency adjustment. Secondly, the offensive scheme is all wrong for this team. We play an inside out ball movement that often ends with a 3 point shot by design. We are not a good 3 point shooting team. We need to stop that as a first option. We have little offensive rebounding, very few second chance shots. Our 5 is not a presence on the boards nor a defensive stopper. It does not appear that we have anyone to fill that roll other than Slawson and he spends a lot of time away from the basket. That has to change. The freshman starter is willing but not able at this point in his career. The point guard and the swing men are all very inconsistent. I don’t know why they are but we need to play the hot hand as soon as it is becomes apparent and sit the others. Lastly, we are not as good as we all thought. That is a fact. We lost a lot more than we thought from last year’s team. The chemistry on this squad as constituted is not good. Changes must be made and they don’t appear to be tweaks. We are certainly not one of the best mid majors in the country at this point and that is all too obvious. If the staff can make some substantial changes, we can still be very competitive in the SoCon. I hope they are willing and able to do that for all our sakes. Losing to teams like WCU is not fun.
