Great read that got me fired up for the season. I believe in him that he can lead this team to greatness. Love the note about his work ethic in the weight room. Ready for the season to begin!

For us to be "good" this year, Lyons has to have a breakout year.

He showed some ability to get to the basket off the dribble last year but was sporadic. Also seemed like his shot selection improved a bit too.

If he builds on both of those, becomes more of a penetrator and can shoot in the 40%'s from 3 (which he is entirely capable of doing with better shot selection), I think he can average in the mid to high teens in ppg and be our go-to offensive threat.

I know we've talked about it before, but what do we think the starting lineup could look like?

Williams at PF or C, Rafferty at PF, Mounce at SF, Brown at SG & Lyons at PG with Gurley, Hunter, Bothwell and a couple of the other FR and maybe Clark off the bench?

Here's what I think....

PG - Alex Hunter
SG - Jordan Lyons
F - Andrew Brown
F - Noah Gurley
Post - Matt Rafferty

I think both G spots will have Fr spelling the starters, you'll see Jaylon Pugh get some minutes backing up Hunter at PG and Bothwell will get some minutes at the 2G.

In the frontcourt Williams will spell Rafferty in the post much like last year, and Mounce will get time at the F spots.

I'd say those 9 are pretty good bets....the wild card is uber-athletic Tre Clark. Can he get into the rotation as a defensive stopper and athletic wing? He's not a threat from 3 but if he can defend well and penetrate and finish he could get some decent minutes.

Richey praised Jalen Williams during a podcast this summer for making the most improvement of anyone on the team. In one of the team photos posted recently the players were wearing purple jerseys and white jerseys - I assume those were teams they were divided into for a scrimmage. One team had Rafferty, Brown, Lyons, Hunter and... Williams and Pugh. I think those first five were the pre-season starting team.

Would having Williams and Rafferty starting be counter to Richey's uptempo style? Williams hasn't shown the passing ability of Rafferty and is slower. Maybe he'll see a lot of minutes early in the season to keep Rafferty healthy for conference play.

Hunter and Lyons are locks as 1 and 2. I think BR mentioned in a podcast Brown would play 3, his natural position. The biggest wild card is the other F.

In regard to the article, this is Lyons year to step up. I'd love to see him as the 2019 preseason favorite for POTY. His potential this year is 1st Team All-Conference. (A Tall task when one considers Alonso and Magee)

Hearing Mounce looking good and may start, with Gurley being the first big man off the bench. Also Bothwell really impressive and may be in line for significant minutes at both G spots.

I was really impressed with Mounce and his ability to run the floor and his explosiveness. Hoping he's taken a big step over the summer because he could be special in the SoCon.
