I haven't watched any of the latest game, but I followed some of Samford's earlier games. They are inconsistent and don't seem to take some of their D2 opponents seriously. But they can play much better against better known foes. They routed Missouri Valley member Valparaiso by 30 points for instance. Valpo isn't a great team but they are 3-4 against an all D1 schedule and their loss to Samford was by far their worst defeat. Today's loss doesn't mean Samford won't be a dangerous foe.
A three point loss to LSU probably encourages Wofford fans. LSU is now 6-1 and those wins were by an average of 16 points. LSU's loss was to 6-0 Kansas State.
Georgia had plenty of motivation. ETSU beat them last year and it helped get their coach fired. I am sure their new guy was not overlooking this game. Georgia is now 5-2, although it appears both the Bulldogs and LSU have scheduled a lot of of mid-major type games to get their new coaches off to a winning start.
The UNCG loss was probably the poorest performance. SFA won 22 games last year and was a preseason favorite in their conference but are just 4-3 early on and haven't played the toughest schedule.
Not a SoCon game, but Alabama upset North Carolina in four OTs and Noah Gurley came off the bench to play 42 minutes and score 13 points and grab 6 rebounds for Alabama. Gurley had only been averaging 14 minutes and scoring 3.5 ppg before the UNC game. He got the time because Alabama's starter was hurt in the first three minutes of the game.
