My thoughts as well. Coach in waiting??? Unusual move for a coach with his record. Whatever but i believe he will be a positive addition to our program. Hopefully there will be no head coach vacancy for awhile. Go Dins!

I wonder if Warner is looking for some D1 coaching experience to add to his resume. Of the 60 or so open D1 jobs this year it appears only 2 of them have gone to D2 head coaches moving up. The rest have gone to D1 assistants or head coaches.

Getting D1 coaching experience on his resume in order to try to move up to a Head job or Power 5 assistant job might be his motivation. And a big bonus for him is being on the Bob Richey coaching train. We can’t underestimate that appeal in the basketball coaching world. Coaches know it and we fans know it. BR is the best. And he is a magnet attracting the best coaches, staff and players we can get. Can’t wait for the upcoming season.

I’m glad we got him and Flagler lost him. He had transformed that team. They handed Augusta one of their 3 regular season losses. So he was at the highest level in DII. His teams are clearly well-coached when you watch them.

Maybe some here can shed light on coaching basketball. When I visit the Football coaches page, everybody has a specialty: offensive coordinator, special teams, defensive coordinator, etc. But men’s basketball coaches are all listed as “assistants”. Do they specialize? Anybody know who-does-what on our team? Just curious.

That’s a really good question. I think it depends a lot on how involved the head coach is. I bet an assistant runs practice at the schools with ancient coaches. Or sometimes a guy has a specialty. For instance Augusta has an old NBA guy who specializes in teaching big men how to be old school big men. But, yes, you ask an interesting question.

Yes, our coaches specialize. IT's just not in their title.

Thanks. Do we know what Coach Warner's specialty will be?

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
