Never underestimate a Christian from Abilene. They have to be tough to survive in that Godless cow town.

In the meantime the Ladies are looking awful at Clempson. CU was picked near the bottom of the ACC.

Had some interactions with some of those Wildcats on the ACU Message Board before & after their Football Game with Mercer this Fall. They seem like a fine group of peeps, and, as noted, a hearty lot.

Upstate down 5 to Southern Wesleyan with under 10 to go.

Southern Wesleyan is pretty decent also.

Citadel up 8 at half against basically a club team.

SWU wins by 10. First ever D1 win. Ladies got embarrassed at Clempson by 40. Might be time go in a different direction for the Ladies.

Mercer destroyed North Georgia. Of course good Peach Belt teams destroy North Georgia. The Chattanooga game may be mildly interesting because Lander is usually top 5 or so in the Peach Belt.

UTC beat Lander 96-63. Mercer won by 31. Another future opponent SC State lost to App. St. At home by 20.

Not SoCon, but I feel bad for Gardner Webb. Its game against Georgia canceled, Duke and Florida State postponed.

Clint Longley, a product of ABILENE CHRISTIAN, is best remembered for his performance in a Thanksgiving Day game in 1974 against the Washington Redskins. Longley, then a rookie, came into the game for an injured Roger Staubach with the Cowboys trailing 16-3 in the third quarter, and facing elimination from the playoffs. After hitting Billy Joe Dupree for a 35-yard touchdown pass, he led the Cowboys on a 70-yard drive capped by a 1-yard Walt Garrison touchdown run. Finally, with the Cowboys behind 23-17 and with only 28 seconds left with no time outs, Longley hit Drew Pearson down the middle for a 50-yard hail mary pass touchdown which gave the Cowboys a dramatic 24-23 come from behind victory.

Because Longley had no expectation of playing in that game and was completely unprepared, Cowboys lineman Blaine Nye sarcastically called his winning effort "the triumph of the uncluttered mind.”

Clint Longley. A Thanksgiving Day legend.

Good right arm...and good right hand, apparently...

Yet it was epic that 2nd half Thanksgiving Day 1974.

Good win for Mercer tonight vs GaTech. Haase ( transfer from SC) and Cummings are solid players. Not sure GaTech would be in the top 5 of the Socon.
