Season 2020-21 ... The Upside

I've been stewing about the irony of 2020-21: the most promising collection of Paladin talent and a coach coming into his own - reflected in nearly all ratings & projections - putting CBR on the brink of taking the program to a whole different level and giving FU the national exposure it's long deserved.

And what's about to happen? Few if any fans are expected in the stands and the whole thing is teetering on metrics tracking a winter surge. It's got me digging-out my Jobu doll and setting up a shrine.

But this morning Jon Rothstein tweets and I begin to wonder ... could we be on the verge of more visibility that we ever could have hoped?

It gonna be hard to say. A team like FU I think needs the energy of a crowd. How will they react/play with no or few fans? Looks like everyone is going to be in the same boat so I guess it will be those teams that handle it better than others that will ultimately succeed. For us fans it’s gonna suck for sure but right now I just want this team to be able to play, fans or no fans.

Wouldn’t they have a vaccine before the end of the season? Just throwing that out there

We already have 2. Be optimistic that distribution will start in Dec and keep ramping up. Also the Western states in freak out mode now will be hitting the peak any day now. I looked at SD numbers today and it looks like they’ve peaked. The west coast is the last place for it to go and they already had the chinese flavor so maybe they are immune to Italian style.

This reminds me of a game last season where FU played UT Arlington. A game that was not even televised, with very few fans in attendance. Paladins were getting beat nearly the whole game but Mike Bothwell came up huge with an and-1 to take the lead in the last few seconds. I think this will be ready to play whoever, whenever, in front of no fans or thousands.

We were a part of the few fans in the arena that day. It was strange to see. But, you have to remember we were playing at a neutral site (Elon).

Anyone that doesn't have espn+ I suggest you sign up for it. Excellent for the price of around $5 a month. Not only most of the Furman games will be on espn+ but tons of others. You can watch on your computer, phone or TV thru streaming services like Roku etc.
