Dear Furman Family,

As we approach the end of the fall semester, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of Furman Athletics and to share information regarding our upcoming men’s and women’s basketball seasons.

It’s been great to watch our basketball teams practice in preparation for the start of their seasons on November 25. We are still confirming our non-conference schedules and expect to share this information with you soon. As you might imagine, there have been many changes to our schedule due to COVID-19, but we are committed to playing a competitive schedule in addition to our Southern Conference games.

During the 2020-2021 season, Furman Athletics will follow a phased approach with regards to ticketing and attendance for men’s and women’s basketball games in Timmons Arena and at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. This policy is based on state guidelines, which currently allow limited attendance for large events. This includes everyone in attendance — student-athletes, coaches, game day staff, media, families, students, university employees, alumni and fans.

Therefore, with guidance from Furman’s COVID Response Steering Committee and the Public Health and Safety Advisory Group, and while keeping the campus and greater Greenville community’s health and safety as the priority, we have developed a phased approach that makes Furman Basketball games accessible to students and the external community.

Game day attendance will be subject to change based on the health of our community, recommendations and guidelines from DHEC and from the university’s COVID Response Steering Committee and Public Health and Safety Advisory Group. For the latest information on competition schedules and attendance restrictions, visit our website.

Phase 1 We will provide a healthy and safe environment for our teams and coaches to compete at Timmons Arena with a maximum capacity of 50 attendees, which includes both teams and staff.

Phase 2 We will allow family members and guests of student-athletes, coaches and staff from both teams to attend games in Timmons Arena with a maximum capacity of 250 attendees.

Phase 3 We will allow for limited attendance in Timmons Arena during the winter break (while students are away from campus) with a maximum of 850 attendees (17% seat capacity). In addition to families and guests, tickets will be sold to season ticket holders and fans for these games on an individual basis.

Phase 4 We will integrate Furman students, faculty and staff for limited attendance in games at Timmons Arena following the start of the spring semester with a maximum of 850 attendees (17% seat capacity). Some of these games may be for students only due to limited opportunities for students to attend games this season.

Phase 5 In partnership with the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, we will allow for limited attendance for men’s basketball games at The Well in January and February. Season tickets and individual tickets will be available for purchase. Depending on community conditions, there may be an opportunity for designated student seating at these games.

Unlike most years, Furman Athletics will not sell basketball season tickets for men’s and women’s games in Timmons Arena. However, we will sell season ticket packages for our men’s basketball games at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Current season ticket holders and Paladin Club donors will continue to receive the benefits that come with these tickets. Furman basketball season ticket holders will have priority access to post-season competitions including the NCAA Tournament and future season ticket holder events.

In the days ahead, our Ticket Office will contact all basketball season ticket holders and will provide the public with further information on how to purchase season ticket packages for games at Bon Secours Wellness Arena and how to purchase individual tickets for games at Timmons Arena.

For those of you who are unable to attend games in person, Fan Cut Outs will be available for purchase online so all of our fans can continue to help make Furman Basketball an unbeatable atmosphere. You will be able to show your support for our basketball programs with a picture that will be placed in the arena during home games. For more information visit our website.

Finally, please consider supporting Furman Athletics through the Charge Forward Campaign. Charge Forward was launched in October to offset the substantial loss in revenue and increased expenses due to the pandemic and absence of fall competition. Donations to the Paladin Club, Athletics Strategic Fund, or the Furman Athletics program of your choice will help advance our efforts. Your philanthropy – above and beyond your usual annual support – will help protect the university’s financial health and carry us through this difficult time.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact a member of our Furman Athletics staff. We appreciate your passionate support and look forward to seeing you soon.

Take care and Go Paladins!

Sincerely,

Jason Donnelly

Looks like we'll be watching ESPN for Timmons' games. Doubt seriously we'll see any games on ESPN3. (free). Guess I'll have to renew my ESPN+ subscription.

Estimated the numbers for phase 1. Wondering who will turn on the lights, mop the floor of wet spots, man the clock, and keep score.

Also wondering what standards will be applied to determine which phase will be applicable.

I’ll mop the floor if it gets me into the games
They'll reach the 50 before that.
Consider a minimum of 20 for each team (Players, coaches, trainer) = 40
Officials = 3
Timekeeper = 1
Scorer = 1
Camera operators = 2
Broadcast media = 2
A.D. = 1

That's 50.

A.D. can sit “up in the rafters” & watch with binoculars; or watch on TV from his office.
That makes a spot for 1 person to turn on the lights & mop the floor; unless A.D. will perform those duties.
If visiting team A.D. comes, he or she will need to wait outside!

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
