1st no way that shot was off in time. If they can review the clock on one end should be able to review clock after that
2nd Molinar did not leave his feet. TU player leaned into him and Molinar arm and all was standing straight up stiff as a board
3 No way a Ref calls a foul like that with the game on the line. unwritten rule to let em play

Still... if you foul right when he catches ball, its 2 shots and ball game
1) doesn’t matter if the shot didn’t leave his hands it’s when the foul occurred which was well before time ran out
2) doesn’t matter if he didn’t leave his feet you can’t be in someone landing area which Molnar was
3) silly. A foul is a foul
4) you never foul in that situation you would never in a million years find a team trying to foul up 3 with .8 seconds left. The player is immediately shooting the ball so very hard to foul before he’s in the act of shooting. The chances of connecting on a pass that far down the court getting the shot up and making it are much less likely than risking fouling and him being in the ask of shooting

Correct, the team that leads in that situation wins 999 times out of a thousand but FU found a way. Hate it for JP as he would have gotten a lot of national exposure again on a slow basketball night.

In a clear catch and shoot situation such as this was, the act of shooting is virtually simultaneous with the catch - a very difficult shot at best. The defender should be waving his arms straight up in front of the shooter and not be near enough to allow the ref to make a bad call to satisfy the homie crowd. I understand the shot taken was nowhere near the basket. I personally like the catch and immediate 2 shot foul grab in that situation IF it is possible. If not, let him go for the rushed shot. Being inside the shooter's landing zone is definitely a foul. Was our guy or not?

look at this clip at the :37 mark. The whistle and hand go up with Molinar back to the shooter and standing at least 3 ft away. It was a very late whistle and apparently the ref thought about it. It was called before the ball hit so he didnt consider, at least, if the shot was made or not. If the shot had been made, it could have been a 4pt play

there was no foul but being up 3 with under 1 second to go should be a win.. especially if you foul the guy before he shoots..and with a 3 point lead you can have all 5 guys draped around the 3 point lin pushed out...you can tackle the guys before he can catch the ball......you can give up anything from 2 and win...there is no excuse for what happened in this game after such a great comeback...and there was a timeout to discuus as well..

Couldn't watch in real time so watched the replay. So here's my 2 cents worth. Great comeback and effort by the Paladins but winning is difficult when you turn the ball over 22 times. Definitely some New Orleans home cooking, though.

1. No way there was .8 seconds on the clock after Pegues made his shot.
2. Phantom foul call on Molnar.

However

1. It was all a moot point if we made our free throw with 17 secs left in regulation.
2. We should not have allowed the Tulane player to catch the ball in the first place. Face guard him and make him go towards the basket to catch the ball. Then he's inside the 3 point line if we don't intercept it. Why play behind him?
3. We should have fouled him before he caught the ball if #2 doesn't work. Even if he makes both free throws we have the ball and a 1 point lead with .8 secs.
4. If not doing #2 or #3 then just back off and let him shoot and don't allow the homer refs to make a bad call. Make him make the shot.
5. I thought Molnar played a heck of a game except for a couple turnovers but I would have put Vanderwal on the Tulane player and put him in front of him. He's a little bigger and could have prevented a catch.

I usually don't criticize Coach R but I didn't like our strategy on that end of game play.

I still think this team is going to be very good in March and think they should just put this game out of their minds and move on. We are close. Also, we beat that team by 8-10 points on a neutral court and by 20 in Timmons.

We could have let all 5 players stay on the sidelines and won the game. To catch the ball turn, elevate and get off a shot in .8 seconds is near impossible and to make such shot is impossible. There really was no need to guard anyone. The good news is it is just another loss. We were not undefeated, or even highly ranked. In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter. We are 5-6 instead of 6-5 no big deal. I still think we have a decent shot to finish in the top half of the league.

watched that replay a dozens times. Would luv to get an explanation of the foul just for learning somehing about the game....

1. clock: same ref that called the foul was controlling the clock (at least you can see his hand on the device on his belt as soon as the ball is being put in play). TU player catches ball turns around and shoots and there is still .8 on the clock. Not sure this would have made a difference but shows refs bias
2. Foul before catch. Molinar is abt 3 feet away from the player before the play. TU player squats back and leans into Molinar. Without Molinar there I think he falls on hos butt
3. TU foul before the shot: as TU player turns to shoot, his elbow hits Molinar in the face. Not only a foul but also a technical
4. TU player shot: TU player leans into Molinar which was probably the strategy
5. TU player lands: as TU player lands he steps on Molinars foot. Thats when the refs hand went up
6. Foul call: foul was called very late. No one in the TU stands nor bench including HC was calling for the foul
7. After the foul: usually when there is a foul, the ref gives a gester or explanation of what was the foul. Such as putting his hand on his hip or arm. No such thing happened.

JUst very bizzare. Game is officially an L but lets learn from it

Great game. I watched the whole thing. Gutsy performance by the Paladins. Reminded me of the triple OT shoot out with Mercer back in the early/mid 70's. Lost that one too unfortunately. 118 - 115. Before the 3 point shot.

This team will be hard to handle come SoCon tourney time if we get fully healthy.

My friends in NOLA said the radio airwaves were talking about how FU got screwed and Tulane got an early XMas present.

SD thinks the foul was when shooter lands on Molinars feet. But found this rule:

"A shooter is not allowed to kick his leg forward while in the air to draw a foul. This can be consider an offensive foul in some instances. A shooter is allowed to jump forward in the natural motion of his shot. Defenders own whatever space they are in when a shooter's feet leave the ground.

Molinar did not move his feet from where he was. Therefore he "owned" the space. If the shooter lands on it, should not be a foul.
