LOL - when FUBeAR read the original post, he wondered if anyone was going to bristle at the (completely apt) use of “quaint” in that sentence. Even created a mental list of ‘usual suspects.’
The nuance of TheUFFP never fails to amuse.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers,
For he today who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother

Affirm did not bristle, just thought it was a mistaken word choice, and wanted clarification. With the 2 subsequent responses, my guess now is that “quaint” was used as sarcastic, derogatory, and/or pejorative. Therefore, Affirm bristles now.
Affirm believes academic integrity should not be unusual nor old-fashioned.
Even so, Affirm also is glad to be amused by The UFFP, even sometimes to the point of LOL due to some of the clever and frequently nuanced comments and posts by one or more “usual suspects”.

How you believe things should be has no relevance to the current state of D1 collegiate athletics / academics, which Furmanoid was clearly referencing.
The fact is that the Transfer Portal, the advent of NIL, and the almost entire abdication of regulatory & enforcement responsibilities by the NCAA have left us where it is 100% accurate to denote Furman’s commitment to Academic excellence and integrity, with regard to our Athletics programs and Student Athletes, as “quaint” in the world of D1 College Athletics - quite quaint, in fact.
While those of us who have some sense of the myriad challenges our Furman Teams have faced with regard to Admissions and Financial Aid policies do continue to support more sensible and reasonable guidelines and policies there, FUBeAR, for one ( and his sense is that almost all others), would never support the acceptance / normalization of Players on Furman’s Teams being “fake students” as is the case now at many - probably fair to say most - D1 schools. If that becomes required to be ‘successful’ with how we currently define success, then FUBeAR would prefer that Furman move to D3. So far, we are doing an exemplary job of proving that’s not the case. We are proving that we can be more than competitive within the SoCon and on a national level, which is a great tribute to all involved with Furman Athletics.
