Well Alabama had a 55-54 lead with under 6 to go and then gave up 10 straight points and lost 64-56. Scored one point the last 5 plus minutes. Ended up 3-22 from three. They were 19-22 from the free throw line. Need to keep them off the line.

Another example of how unpredictable basketball is was the Mercer/Ga. Southern game tonight. GSU beat Upstate on a last second shot and lost by 32 to Davisson. Mercer was undefeated. Should be an easy win for MU right? Wrong. With 17 to go MU was down 16 points. They came back and won on a buzzer beater 77-75.

Big development in the SoCon this weekend...I didn't see where this had already been posted:

Our first conference game is @ UTC, this should help

Scores from tonight:

UNCG 65 Upstate 57 😳
VCU 93 WCU 68
WC 88 Coastal 77
Surprised at the 2 close games.

Wednesday scores:
Troy 79 Stamford 71
Georgia St, 88 Mercer 81
UTC 69 UNCA 66
Chatty needed a steal and layup with 5 seconds left to go ahead. Added 2 free throws later for the final margin.

As much as I hate to say this, at least right now I think the toughest competition will be from 30 miles up the road.

I watched the wofford vs coastal Carolina game and wofford looks better than last year to me. In my opinion, they look to be the major competitor for the conference this year. Hopefully we can turn it around from last years Asheville debacle and losing 2 of 3 to them. Hope the players aren’t buying into any hype and play with a chip on their shoulder all year. It’s gonna be a grind as usual

Watching the WC/Texas A&M game. WC came out and took a 15-3 lead on five straight 3 pointers. Then took 20+ minutes to score the next 15. With 13.5 to go TA&M has a 7 point lead. Aggies do not look very good. Both teams are missing players.

After starting hot with 5 straight 3 pointers in the first 3.5 minutes, WC then scored 37 points in the next 36.5 minutes and lost 70-52. Terriers were an awful 4-19 from the free throw line. Starters were 1-13. One starter was 0-8. 😳

A couple of SoCon scores:
Alabama 85 ETSU 69 one point game at half. UA started pulling away at 15 minute mark and got it up to 20.
UTC 66 Tenn. St. 63 UTC is now 9-0.

Speaking of collapses of biblical proportions. Northeastern led Georgia 50-36 with 15 minutes left when Georgia went on a 21-0 run and closed the game on a 40-8 run and Georgia won 76-58.

Wofford controls the game and beats Mercer 78-65

Storm Murphy (Wofford) 7/18 FG, 16 pts

Ross Cummings (Mercer) 7/12 FG, 21 pts

Wofford went 47% FG and 30% from 3

Mercer went 39% FG and 33% from 3

Wofford had 43 rebounds

Mercer had 37 rebounds

Wofford had their largest lead at 19 pts

DoomedDin’s takeaway- Wofford beat Mercer with offensive rebounds. Mercer had plenty of opportunities but either 1- missed the opportunity or 2- Wofford (mainly Storm Murphy) would respond with a two jumper. Wofford had control.

Yep WC pretty much dominated and unfortunately I think WC is now the team to beat in the SoCon. WC just seems to thrive on national TV. Bad night for me as both WC and CU won games I thought they could lose. Stupid me.

Starting PG, Alvarez, was a last-minute scratch for Mercer - no info as to why.

Really the QB & the ‘spark’ for Mercer this year. By far Assist Leader & 2nd Leading scorer. Gets to the rack, gets fouled & shoots 86% FT’s. Frackin’ YardBarkers get lucky & face an opponent w/o their “MVP”

WITH Alvarez, Mercer is far better than they showed tonight & the MiniPups aren’t as good as an Alvarez-less Mercer made them look.

Oh...and probably 80% of the LittleDog’s O-Rebounds were big bounce-off’s of the rim on long missed 3’s. They didn’t really beat the Bears ‘on the glass.’ They beat them to, essentially, loose balls. Hard to think the lightning-quick Alvarez wouldn’t have made a difference & captured his share of those, as well...probably starting a man-up break in the process.

As Blue Oyster Cult said, “Don’t fear the Yappers.” They ain’t that good.
