When thinking about the importance of the No. 1 seed this season, just look at the difference between the 7th and 8th seeds. While VMI played well last night, it appears that Samford, VMI and Citadel will finish 8-10. Whether the No. 7 seed is Chattanooga, Mercer, Western Carolina or whoever, that's a really dangerous opening opponent for the No. 2 seed.

That’s about as bad of a first half one can play and still expect to win. VMI employed the dreaded “UNCG half court press” and caused an uncharacteristic amount of TOs. We won’t go far in the SoCon tourney if we don’t improve against that press. Obviously this is nothing new and CBR is well aware of this.

All that aside, winning games like this makes a team better. Certainly better than blowing out a team and playing bench guys. They will need to look back on this game in the middle of the SoCon tourney if ever feeling down and out.

Well we get to sit back and watch this Saturday. Biggest game of the day will be UNCG at ETSU at 4pm. A couple of others to keep an eye on are Sammy @ WC and WCU @ UTC. Have to pull on ETSU against UNCG. IMHO UNCG is the best team at least right now.
Tend to agree - I think UNCG is the toughest team in the league. We struggle against their press D. Wes Miller has BR's number thus far.

Actually, no. We average about 12 turnovers a game. Last night we played an extra 5 minutes of OT. That would prorate to about a 13.5 turnover game . We finished with 14 - a negligible difference. VMI had 17.

Our turnovers were mostly caused by our own bad decisions. There must have been at least 4 or 5 times that I wanted to yell - "just shoot it" - when we would get the ball to within a few feet of the basket and try to make a very difficult pass instead of putting the ball up. One time Mounce drove the middle and tried a hard, short bounce pass in traffic instead of putting it up. Another time Lyons beat his man and seemed to have a layup but fired a tough pass to the sideline instead of shooting. Other times we drove the baseline and missed on really tricky passes to the corners. Other turnovers we caused by simple carelessness or maybe nervousness, especially when the game stayed close because of our terrible shooting.

Totally agree, was thinking the same.

I had to watch the game on TV. I believe I saw a graphic at halftime showing each team with 12 TOs. Not good to hit your average in the first half. To their credit the 2nd half (and OT) was much better and allowed the comeback win. I must have seen half of those resulting from bad passes trying to break the press. Just saying we have some work to do there.
