For #Paladins it's building down the stretch as VMI visits. -- MD

Hey Monte, nice article. A few corrections: FU is 13-12 not 16-15 but 16-15 could be where they finish. 😀 3 teams tied for 4th not four. Those 3 are up 2 games on ET and 3 on Mercer not 2 and 1. The loss at MU that shoukd have never been was huge. That win and FU would be tied for third with uncg and only a game back of second place utc whom they host Sunday.
Thanks for catching my shingles-ridden senior moment. Shall fix forthwith. -- MD
Shingles is terrible. You are the opposite of terrible. Hang in there. Get well soon.

Glad to see Vanderwal have a breakout game and Hien have a decent second half. I'll take the win but it weren't purty.

I do like playing two bigs at the same time ie Hien and Hughey, Hughey and Bowser, Hien and Bowser, etc. but wish we could play a game where the defensive intensity was there for 40 minutes and we didn't make so many mistakes on offense. Oh well.

Bottom line is if by some way we could win the SoCon tourney and get to the NCAA, with the way college basketball has been going, anything can happen.

VMI is not good by any stretch, #349 in KP., #353 in the NET. They have one D1 win all year. We played excellent basketbal for 6 minutes for a 21-1 run and that was enough for the W. Watching SU and WCU on espnu. They are playing in a mostly empty gym. You would think with SU’s gawdy record they would have a good crowd but guess not. Decent student section, outside of that not good. Kudos to BV with his career game.

If #4 keeps on playing like that, he's starting to remind of a former player that wore #20 .

This game was a microcosm of the season. At time we looked great. At times we looked lost. At times we shot well. At times we couldn’t throw it in the ocean.

Too many lazy/sloppy passes. Too many impatient 3s.

Hopefully this is a turning point for VanderWal. Whitt had some sloppy TOs but overall played well.

Suspension? Offense looks horrible at times. Coach says one player will play regardless. Defense loses players especially right before half. Not good news for mid February.

You have to think that the 40 point victory margin of the first game - on the road - played into the sloppiness. A coach can say anything to the players before the game about keeping focus but I have seen this play out too many times to expect most young guys to really take it to heart. The fact that we turned an even game into a 20 point lead over a 6 minute span in the middle of the second half didn't help. We need to avoid making careless passing part of our game.

Loved seeing Vanderwal get a breakout kind of game. Hope he can build on this. Don't expect him to lead the team in scoring and rebounding as a rule, but we need some more guys to become scoring threats. With Williams out and Foster, Pegues, and Smith all having sub-par shooting nights we needed the points. If Hien and Bowser can combine for 14 and 11 and 6-9 every night we will be really solid at the post. Whitt had some beautiful drives for layups and 7 assists, offset some by 4 turnovers - most of them careless passes.
