Interesting transfer - Robbie Carmody, a 6'4" guard at Notre Dame is going to play at Mercer. Carmody was a very highly regarded player at Mars Township HS in Pennsylvania, who had at least 20 offers, mostly from schools such as Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue. Louisville,Stanford, etc. The mid major schools didn't even bother to try. He never played much at Notre Dame although he did hit 50% of his FG as a sophomore and was getting a little court time. Appears to have been injured in 21-22. Good athlete who was smooth, with a good mid-range shot, but not a three point shooter. Could fit in well with Mercer's system if healthy.
After a quick look at his ESPN stats in 4 years I just assumed he must have been a walk-on by how little he played, Rhett Lister has played in 10 more college games than this guy
Mercer coach Gary was an assistant at Purdue when Carmody was being recruited by Purdue. I assume that connection was part of the transfer decision. I think Carmody had a knee injury as a junior at ND so we will see how close he is to the player who got all those P5 offers in HS.

Sounds a lot like Carter Whitt.

From their high school videos it appeared that Whitt was a better passer/assist man and a little more athletic and Carmody was a more versatile scorer going to the basket and with the mid range shot.

In other news Garrett Johnson, the 6'8" transfer from Princeton will attend George Washington.

Zidek is a 6'9" 240 native of the Czech Republic who has one year of eligibility left. He started 29 games and averaged 13 ppg as a junior but didn't start any games this year and his scoring average was cut in half. I assume that is a big part of his reason for transferring. He appears to be mainly a scorer as he only grabbed a couple of rebounds per game this year and had very few blocked shots. Hits about 30% of his threes and about half his shots are from range. Looks decent as a post-up guy when he goes inside. Mainly a face the basket guy.

A very interesting pickup from the transfer portal for Western Carolina. Corneilous Williams, a 6'9" 210 forward is leaving LSU for the Catamounts. Williams is a former 3 star rated recruit who was from Mississippi but who went to HS at a prep in North Carolina. Williams was injured this year (shoulder) and didn't play so he has 4 years of eligibility left. He is described as a very good athlete but may be lacking in shooting range.

WCU is looking like a contender for next season . They return most of their top players including their star guards and wings. The main guy they lost was their best big guy but they may have a replacement. Williams could be valuable as a shot blocker and rebounder - they have good scorers coming back.

Williams can only dunk, no skill in his game from videos I've seen. He got zero Power offers heading into college only followed Murray St. coach to LSU, could not crack it at that level with such limited offensive game. He will be a project for a few years up there and may transfer again before he ever amounts to anything.
WCU will be about a .500 team or a few games over next year would be my guess, and then their coach will leave for some other mid-major job, which for them historically is about the best they can hope for lol

Actually, Williams had almost 20 offers including a listed offer from Houston, which may not be P5 but has been one of the best programs in the country for several years. And LSU does count as a Power conference offer.

The fact that he doesn't score much other than dunks and layups isn't that important. If he can defend the low post and rebound and set screens that may be all he needs to do. Plenty of teams have been very successful including winning championships with big men doing just that.

Obvious what Western Carolina wanted to add. They just got a commitment from transfer Charles Lampten from Coll. of Charleston. He is 6'11 and a senior who didn't play much but appears to have some shotblocking ability. WCU has added a 6'10" freshman, 6'9" Williams, and now 6'11" Lampten. That is potentially 15 fouls a game and some big bodies to bump defenders off their shooters.

Zero power offers other than following the coach that recruited him at Murray St. to LSU, and once he got there realized he will never play so to the portal he went. We have seen these type transfers over and over in the SoCon, some of the junior and senior ones work out but the ones that get here after just a redshirt year in P5 leagues are never ready to contribute anytime soon. WCU was desperate and had to find some height, he is a big work in progress and won't be ready to contribute productively on the college level for several years, he has zero skill right now.

Another not so great big man, this time an older guy, I remember him at FU vs. CofC game last year, he was awful lol, 3 fouls and 0 points in 6 minutes, its easy to see why he only got 7 minutes a game and 0.8 points at CofC this year. I am glad Furman's program is at such a good place we don't have to get desperate taking big guys like this.

Wofford transfer Paveletzke is going to Iowa State.

Josh Morrissette, a little used freshman guard at Wofford has transferred to D2 Saint Anselm College.

ETSU has picked up 6'10" Jadyn Parker from North Florida. Parker is a sophomore (eligibility wise) who averaged about 7 ppg and 5 rebs. He hit about 59% of his shots and blocked almost 2 shots a game while playing about 20 minutes per game.

Winston Hill, 6'7" 230 transfer from Presbyterian, has committed to the Citadel. Hill averaged about 10 ppg a year ago but missed most of this year with an injury.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
