Some non SoCon news of interest. No one is immune from the transfer bug. at least 2 players have entered the portal from Michigan State .
Odd turn of events for Meechie Johnson, who started his career with two seasons at South Carolina. He transferred to Ohio State this season and averaged close to 10 ppg, but has now decided to transfer back to South Carolina.

Mercer picks up a commitment from Zaire Williams, a senior from Wagner. How he still has eligibility shocks me, probably a medical redshirt of something. He averaged 12 ppg, 4 rpg, 34% from 3 last year for a team that finished 14-16.

Wofford picks up a couple of transfers to help balance out their losses.

6'2" junior guard Brendan Rigsbee comes from D2 Georgia College. He is from Suwanee, GA and North Gwinett HS. Began his college career at Alabama-Huntsville. Furman and Chattanooga were a couple of schools that showed some interest.

6'11" Callum Richards is transferring from East Carolina where he played very little over the past two years and averaged about 1 ppg and 1 rpg when he did play. Was recruited by several mid majors in high school and originally commited to ETSU before changing his mind and going to ECU. He is from the Charlotte area..

Looks like Rigsbee could become Wofford's Nick Anderson...

By my count there are 31 SoCon players in the portal, roughly 1/4th of the entire league…
No reason not to enter as you can just come back. Someone might throw 50K or 70K your way. That's SEVENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS (pre-tax) easy. top guys are getting 2 MILLION and I don't mean top ten.. I mean top 50-100 guys. Why not enter.

CLEARLY IMO our boy made the right choice going to Auburn. let's see, play basketball more or play a little but get FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS (I heard) which he is SET... FOR... LIFE. put 200K away and let it grow to 2-3 MILLION by age 60ish. I would have. People say "kids dont do that"... I DID. I front loaded the h*ll outta that 401K in my 20s. It is their fault if they don't. point being now he has the chance to experience the FF and maybe a title vs a first-round NIT loss? Not a doubt in my mind he made the right choice to leave Furman.

Everyone ought to think about it and test the $$$. then just come back if there is no $$$ to be had. And think, to hang an Auburn jersey in your house that came from the FF? SoCon rings are cool but a FF jersey? I said per the money at the year's start he made the right choice... and he did. NIT first round loss vs FF and all the money and NBA friends?

anyway, I get it and harbor no ill will to the young man. I would have done the same

TYA1 you are actually a transfer short I THINK... I think you are saying USC to OSU to USC.... It is actually even weirder:
"For the SECOND time in his career, Meechie Johnson Jr. is transferring from Ohio State to South Carolina. "
ESPN or someone is calling this back-forth-back-forth as forever to be known as a "Meechie" LOL. back and forth from two schools twice !

"The former Buckeye guard announced his commitment to the Gamecocks on Tuesday after a one-year RETURN trip to Ohio State. " pretty sure it was OSU to USC to OSU to USC. wacky

and some here say I don't know my basketball. LOL at them. I know way too much OCD stuff as this proves

Bruce Grimm did that while I was at Furman. Played his freshman year at FU in '73-'74. Transferred to Providence and sat out the '74-'75 season. Didn't play much at Prov. during fall '75-76 season and transferred back to Furman 1/1/76. Played the '76-'77 and '77-'78 seasons at Furman. I think he lost a half year of eligibility by doing that.

I'm not sure I have all my facts straight but that's how I think it happened.

Anybody know what became of him?
