according to CBR, best D in years. Very encouraging!

Yep, and he says our starting PG Smith might be back by game 2 at Belmont...

The game was much closer than the score, and AU had their hands full. Some ticky tacky fouls and other calls slowed us down halfway through the second period. It should've been a 10-12 point game instead of 21, but I am very encouraged by what I saw.

FU 9-10 at the free throw line. 9-14 if you count Hein.
yea its mental... lets not add to the pressure IMHO

After his clutch free-throws against VA I honored my promise last year to never criticize his struggles from the line all season. New Season and all I see is “0 for”. It’s mental, but it’s also controllable. Ask Rick Barry. I think the fan base has an obligation to grumble at poor performance that’s controllable.
Why? Does it make the players play better or does it make you feel better?

Demonstrates basic care & concern. The emphasis is on "controllable" - meaning off-season work on free-throws.

And there's an element of care for the safety of the player, as well. He's going to draw way more than his share of hard-fouls unless he's able to shore-up his free-throw %age.

I love Hien, but he needs to feel the pressure to play well because that also means we have a capable guy ready to step in, if he's not hitting free throws, rebounding and knocking in a few 3's then hopefully Johnston is playing well enough to get more minutes...
Hoping Hien will put it all together very soon, the time for him is NOW!

Hien is a 24 yr old grad student, I believe. There should be very little pressure on him other than to play good basketball. I think everyone is pulling for him to have his best year - he just needs to quit thinking and realize he has a good cast of players around him. Nobody expects him to be a top level player every night, just a consistent performer on the court each game. With that said, I think Johnston has tons more upside and appears to be a good shooter and can make FT's. Will be interesting to see how good our two big men are by March.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
