I might be mistaken, but don't they have an extra year of eligibility now? Any idea if they would use it? Can see positives and negatives to both scenarios.

Yes not just seniors but every winter sports player has been granted an extra year of eligibility. In other words it doesn’t matter if you’re a senior or freshman you get an extra year with your current team. The way I understand it you cannot transfer and get another year. I can only see positives having Mounce and Hunter back for another year.

Think about it. Another year with the same starting 5 and 2 more years for Gurley, Bothwell and Slawson. What’s not to like? Of course this is assuming they all want to come back which hopefully they will.

100% agree, that's the positive, we would be absolutely loaded, WITH depth (good luck getting anyone to play us!). The only negative in my book is could that be a disincentive for our excellent incoming recruiting class?

Just something that crossed my mind, and I'm aware this will be the case everywhere. Also should state that I hope Mounce and Hunter do stay, really love watching them play.

Agree and yes it would be the same everywhere. Have no idea how this is gong to work scholarship wise. I assume the only way to make it work is to increase the scholarship limit which is currently 13. Used to be 15.

My view on this is fairly straight forward ****. Alex and Clay coming back next year obviously helps our team next year but objectively hurts us every year after that you dumb ****. Think about it that puts 5 years of players onto one team. The playing time is brutal and will especially effect younger players more because of obviously incoming players are not immediately competing with all the upperclassmen. If we want them for the one extra year to have a really special year best year I can respect that opinion. However, in the long run definitely a negative. Think about it, if John Franklin, Devon sibley, Daniel Fowler, and Geoff beans had an extra year would Mike Bothwell and Slawson be where they are today? Of course not, not trying to be negative just giving the long term view.

All I can say is Im not worrying about the future. The way things are going we may not have college athletics in a few years at least as we know it now.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
